Got this watch to remember my spiritual practices, called hourly practices as a student of STEPS TO KNOWLEDGE: THE BOOK OF INNER KNOWING by Marshall Summers.(awarded Book Of the Year for Spirituality for the year 2000 by Foreward magazine).Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing : Spiritual Preparation for an Emerging World (New Knowledge Library)
Also, brand new book out in Sept. 09 is: The Great Waves of Change: Navigating the Difficult Times Ahead 4 free chapters you can search for the website online or greatwavesofchangeDOTorg if you want to go directly.i highly recommend the spiritual practice which is self study format that STEPS is, and I highly recommend the Great Waves book. They'll change your life for the better, and the best part is, you get change the only thing you can in life, yourself, while you're learning it.
I will probably end up getting a metal band for this, because I need to feel its vibration every hour on the hour.
Watch does a good job of giving you 5 separate alarms you can set.The vibrating function works, but, warning for those with little / thin wrists: the band loosens as it gets broken in, and the vibrating has become harder to feel, especially when I'm working and moving at work.Still, if this watch had a metal band, and solar powering or dual solar/battery power to it: pay attention casio, it would be ideal.(The fishing stuff to me, a city dweller still at this point, are ancillary and perhaps will be useful in the power down future, but I'm not going to review them because I'm not using them, ask a fishing guy.)
Next good thing, I was relieved upon opening the manual to see that they li-ion battery is supposed to last 5 years even with the 'night light' function being used, alarms being used, and several vibrating alarms being used every day, for 5 years. Now, that is not hourly vibrating alarms used everyday for 5 years, but still, I figure I'll get 3-4 year out of it, and that is good. Comment on that: i used to be able to shut off the vibrating function on the hour when I went to bed, now, for whatever reason, it will show off on the alarm settings screen then "on" on the rest of the screens, so it keeps alarming out all night on my wrist; I should probably take this thing off at night actually just so i don't damage it. When I find the manual, I'll try to see how to remedy this problem, which, over time will be significant to battery life. The alarms can be set, by the way, to vibrate or audible alarm, not both, as on some competitor's watches.Furthermore, the vibrate is a kind of triplet it would feel like " ee-e-eeee" that lasts about a second in total duration. So, yes, a bit hard to tell its there after the band has started to get loose on my thin wrists. So, at some point, I'm probably going to need to get a replacement battery which you're not supposed to replace yourself, I think in the manual they ask you to take it to a jeweler or somebody who can crack open the case and not ruin the watch's water resistance ability, I think this may void the warranty if casio discerns in future warranty work that you've tried to crack open the watch casing yourself: as its supposed to be water resistant.
Also, in looking at it now, the picture doesn't show it very well but there is an approximately 1/8" deep part of the watch that sticks out into the area where the pin for the watch wrist band would go through to hold the wrist band to the watch, its black and below the brown night light button (& the face of the watch as well as above the face on the top side): point...this will probably make buying a replacement metal or fabric or velcro band tricky, because of that part of the plastic sticking out on both the top and bottom sides.I don't know maybe this is a standard watch feature, just on this 'manly watch' its a little more bulky and oversized for 'manly' appearance appealing design/marketing reasons....apparently.
Good watch for the function I wanted, pretty fair price, probably have to upgrade the band and replace the batteries, which, in all watch cases, I'd have to do anyway at some point, just quicker with the band on this one I'm afraid.namaste.
