Casio Pathfinder Solar Atomic Watch #PAW500T-7V Review

Casio Pathfinder Solar Atomic Watch #PAW500T-7VJust received the PAW-500T. It is a nice watch, cheapest on web from Amazon.

Initial thoughts:

This is a regular size watch, i am used to wearing bigger watches, so the smaller size was somewhat of a surprise. (I expected it to be smaller, but not by this much...)

The band and case color is "titanium", which is somewhat darker than silver. Also, the metal is not polished, so it is not shiny either. So if you are looking for a watch that has a more reserved look, this is it.

Also, in spite of being a member of the new "slim" line, the watch still seems relatively tall, due partly to the smaller diameter. I have a feeling that this watch was designed with women in mind (who like outdoors, nevertheless) - even the somewhat narrow band is specified as "womens-standard".

Other impressions:

- It might be not really thin, but it is surprisingly light weight. That is a plus. (Case and band are BOTH made of titanium.)
- It measures temperature as well (which is also a plus).
- The big sensor on the side looks somewhat silly.
- "Multi band 5" makes it a real globetrotter watch...

Men looking for something more substantial should buy the PAW-1300T instead (another "slim" Patfinder for 2009).

Casio Men's EFX700D-1A4V Edifice Gold 700 Series Dual Time Watch Review

Casio Men's EFX700D-1A4V Edifice Gold 700 Series Dual Time WatchThis watch looks nice in the photo online, but the reality is that this watch looks very different physically, it is not as attractive as I saw it online. It is not what I have expected by just seeing it on Amazon. Many of the details does not match. I learned that the next time I better go to a store to see it before I buy it online.

Now I am looking for a way to sell this watch to others so I can buy another one.

Mistake I made, the reality is that you cannot see every detail in the photo.

Casio Men's EFA119D-1A4V Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet Watch Review

Casio Men's EFA119D-1A4V Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet WatchHere's my opinion of this watch after several months of ownership:

PROS:

-the many features
-design/bracelet style are very nice

CONS:

-the big disappointment: i really dislike the red plastic making up the display - it adds a cheap feel to the watch when you look closely enough (looking at the picture here, i took it to be metal w/ paint finishing), which spoils the overall very nice design, especially the bracelet

-the lcd display is of poor clarity - you really need to get the right angle to see the display, especially when the glass glares

-having the watch on several times, i also noticed the bracelet scratches rather easily (compared to my SS seiko). i was looking formore durable metal.

Casio Men's AQ164WD-7AV Ana-Digi Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQ164WD-7AV Ana-Digi Sport WatchThis is an excellent watch. The watch feels solid but the band is extremely light weight(may be a plus for some). I purchased it because I needed a watch with a timer. The only complaint I have with the watch is the display cannot be seen under the analog hands so I have hard time seeing the remaining time on the timer.

Casio Men's MSY502D-2AV Analog Reverse Bezel Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's MSY502D-2AV Analog Reverse Bezel Sport WatchThis is a good, solid product with many features such as chronograph, alarm and 200 meters water resistant for which other manufacturers charge a lot more. I did qute a bit of research and did not see anyhing with the same features comparable in price.

I gave this watch 5 stars considering the ratio between its aspect/features vs. price. I would have given this watch a 4 star overall when compared with more expensive watches.

Pros:
- easy to read
- 200 m water resistant
- mineral crystal
- rotating bezel
- although not mentioned by the manufacturer the alarm dial can be used to show another time zone
- standard bracelet; relatively easy to remove link
- no scratches on the crystal and no major scratches on the bracelet after 3 month of normal wear
- accurate timekeeping

Cons
- a little too big and heavy - that could a pro for people with large wrists
- takes some effort to rotatate the bezel, doesn't have a coin edge type and it is slippery
- if you use the alarm to show another time zone (which I did) you can still use the alarm function, but for some reason only when you use the alarm this second time zone (alarm dial)is loosing up to a few minutes and becomes out-of-sync with the normal time zone; however if you only use the alarm dial only for another time zone and do not set the alarm the two time zones remain in sync; since the manufacturer doesn't mention anything about a second time zone this little nuissance doesn't bother me

Overall, after more that 3 months of wearing it I am still very happy with this watch.

Casio Men's AQ190WD-1A Multi-Task Gear Sports Watch Review

Casio Men's AQ190WD-1A Multi-Task Gear Sports WatchI am a diabetic and use a watch with multiple alarms to keep me on schedule. My Citizen Nighthawk had broken for the fourth time in the ten years I've owned it. Rather than spend the $125.00 to have it repaired again, I decided to look for something to replace it. Of the dozens of watches I researched, this one came up with all of the features I was looking for at a very reasonable price. So far, it's working fine. Check back with me in a couple of years, to see if I'm still as happy.

Casio Men's EFA120D-1AV Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet Watch Review

Casio Men's EFA120D-1AV Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet WatchAlthough this watch is "only" a Casio it is simply an amazing and elegant timepiece. For under $60 dollars the watch looks like it costs at least $100 more and has tons of features to keep any technophile content.

The Pros of this watch include:

- Looks:Unlike a lot of other Casio watches, which have cheap looking plastic parts holding the metal pieces together, this watch is all metal. It looks like it is on par with the Seiko's and Pulsar's out there.I chose the square model over the otherwise identical round model because it looks more elegant whereas the round appears more sporty... either way you cannot go wrong.

- Features: The face of the watch is embedded with digital screens that are not normally visible unless you really try and look for them. This allows it to have the grace of a analog watch with the technology and features of a digital. But remember this is an analog watch first so the digital screens are not quick and easy to read like a true digital watch... they are there for supplementary information.

Cons of this watch include:

- The hands of the watch can partially obstruct the digital screens at times.

- The indicators for the alarm, hourly chime, autobacklight, etc. are really small and hard to see.

- The clasp of the band is made from much cheaper looking steel than the rest of the watch. This is not really a problem since you cannot see this part once the clasp is closed.

- The band is rather difficult to adjust and there are not a lot of settings in between so I was not able to get the "perfect" fit although it is very close.

- The band seems to scratch easily.I have had a Pulsar diver's watch for 20 years and had no scratches on its band.I have owned the Casio for less than 1 month and already there are a few faint scratches.Luckily I have not scratched the crystal as of yet but I would not be surprised if this also was easy to scratch.

- The thermometer is innacurate but it can be calibrated and once you calibrate it according to your body temp it does a fair job of telling you the temperature.

- It only has 1 alarm, and it does not have atomic timekeeping like other Casio watches.

Overall I have been really happy with the features and appearance of this watch. It really draws lots of compliments for its analog style and when people look at it upclose they are wowed by the technology factor as well.Really a good buy for the money, hopefully it will hold up with daily use and abuse.

Casio Men's SPF40-1V Sea Pathfinder Tide Watch Review

Casio Men's SPF40-1V Sea Pathfinder Tide WatchThis is an excellent watch for outdoorsy types, especially for those who sail, kayak or surf. With a compass, barometer, thermometer, and tide/moon tracking, it provides essential (potentially life-saving) information in an easy to use package.

The compass is seems accurate and is easy to calibrate. It is ideally suited for emergency navigation and for casual use such as trail hiking and river boating. I'm not sure I'd want to use it as my only compass for serious hiking or over the horizon boating, but perhaps that's just my distrust of electronics in mission critical environments.

The barometer is a little more hit-or-miss. It's accuracy is questionable given its fluctuation with altitude or temperature. This is not a Casio problem - it happens with all barometers especially wrist-mounted. Despite these issues the barometrer does a fair job of tracking the trend over the last 24 hours. Serious moutaineers may miss the multi-day tracking and using the barometer as altimeter, but most will appreciate it for the simple data it provides. I wish there were more display options, like a large multiday graph option for instance, but the small graph is fine.

Temp fluctuates when this is worn on the wrist, but not too much - perhaps a couple of degrees hotter than true outside temperature. It may be less accurate in cold temperatures than hot, but I'll have to wait a few months to test that theory.

The tide and moon features are what make this watch unique among triple-sensor watches, so I imagine that will be a key selling point for most. Both work well enough, though they will not replace a tide chart. The tide graph shows the general point in the cycle, but not with great accuracy. It's really only possible to estimate high tide with an hour or two. It would be nice of the actual hightide time were displayed or at least the graph had greater specificity. The moon tracking is a nice touch, since it allows one to estimate the size of the tides (spring and neap). But it's only an estimate - the watch does not tie moon and tide data together, leaving it to the user to figure it out. Some other tide watches actually have charts built-in that provide much more accurate data for particlar beaches, but are limited to limited spots. Since the Casio use longitude and other data to estimate the tide, it is less accurate for specific spots but more usefull overall. The ability to forcast the moon phase days in the future, but not to do the same for tide, leaves me wondering what they were thinking.

Other features of the watch include a countdown timer, stopwatch, and five alarms, which are all just fine. The five alarms cannot be set by day, but I suppose if you want to set a time for each day and just activate it as necessary that does the job. If you use the stopwatch and coundown timers frequently you may find switching between the two annoying, since they use the same function (you just set the the countdown timer to zero to put it in stopwatch mode). Also there are no lap-timers.

Downsides to the watch basically boil down to compleixity and size. While the watch is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it, it is not entirely intuitive an all screens, and requires some memorization. Setting the tide data requires far too much research on the internet, and casio should provide better data either in the manual or on their website about how to set the data for most large coastal cities and popular recreation areas. The size of the watch is HUGE. It is larger even than the Suunto watches with similar features. The biggest annoyance I have with the size is the height, which is made unnecisarily taller by the rotating bezel. But for some the size won't matter (some may like it) so it is really a matter of taste.

Overall the eatch offers a great set of tools for most casual uses and does it at a very reasonable price. I recommend it to casual adventurers unconcerned about the size.

Casio Men's EFA119BK-1AV Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet Watch Review

Casio Men's EFA119BK-1AV Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet WatchI bought this watch based on several of the reviews listed here.I recommend that you think of this watch as having an analog display with the capability to displaying digital information in the background. In most cases, the background digital information is hard to read unless you hit the illuminate button. This is great for me because it gives the watch a classic analog look while having all of the capabilities of a digital watch when I need it (which is relatively rare - I generally just need to know what time it is).The watch is full of features. I can confirm that the thermometer does not give accurate readings when you are wearing the watch.

As a final note, I could not find any instructions in the manual on how to adjust the band. [...] You need to follow the instructions for the "Leaf Spring Coupled Type," which is very easy once you see how it is supposed to be done.

Casio Men's AQW101-1ACF Active Dial Multi-Task Gear Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQW101-1ACF Active Dial Multi-Task Gear Sport WatchI like inexpensive sports watches.I can't bring myself to wear a watch to impress, and can't imagine wanting a fancy (and expensive) one.I'm like my dad: when it comes to watches I prefer function to form.I like the digital time, the digital timer and the stopwatch.Unlike my dad, however, who for several years (to my mother's chagrin) wore a calculator watch everywhere he went (God rest his soul, I loved the man), I do like it to look good.

I needed a new watch, and wanted to get one that had both a digital readout and hands.I'm not sure why such watches even exist, but I think they look good, and I'm really happy about this watch.I think it looks good on me, and fits well (and I'm a very tall guy, with big wrists) and it has all the functions I could ever want in a watch (timer, alarm and stopwatch, etc.) plus a few more (the compass dial is a fake, though, and this won't give you directions). It reads temperature (though for that it's only an accurate reading if you take it off, since body heat messes with it, though you can adjust for that if you like - I haven't bothered). It shows you the phase of the moon, if you can believe that. But the real showstopper with this watch is the "good fishing" indicator, that varies between one fish and four: when all four leaping fish are lit up, that means (I guess) that you can't miss.I haven't tested the accuracy of its predictions yet and don't know enough (or care) to adjust it.As it turns out, I was surprised by this feature (I guess I didn't read the ad very clearly, mostly looked at the title and the picture, and the price was right and it looks nice). Still, I take some measure of confidence in knowing that if there were a global meltdown, and the local grocery stores were to run out of food, and if I ever got around to buying the proper gear, I'd then have a leg up on all the rest of the sorry sots who don't have a fish predictor built into their watch.
