G-Shock Men's Watch G-Shock Cockpit Series G-702BD-1ADR - WW Review

G-Shock Men's Watch G-Shock Cockpit Series G-702BD-1ADR - WWShortly after buying an Edifice EQW700 Solar Atomic chronograph, I realized why my two excellent G-Shocks never get much wrist time. First, I overwhelmingly prefer analog 'hands' for timekeeping over digital numeric displays, and second, despite their outstanding engineering and endurance, they mostly lack any sense of subtlety or the kind 'simple elegance' I associate with fine tools or instrumentation. Not to put too fine a point on it, but most G-Shocks have more bold text on their dials and bezels than the front page of a Hollywood tabloid!"WR200", "SHOCK RESIST", "10 YEAR LITHIUM" "START", "STOP", "RESET", "FORWARD", "REVERSE", "PARK"......BUGGER!
And so began the hunt for a G-Shock with some class and distinction...an indestructible timepiece for a 'grown up' guy like me who doesn't operate a jackhammer, fight oil fires, or conduct underwater demolitions, or want people to think he does!
So, a few requirements began to organize themselves in my mind. I dearly love my Edifice 700 but between it's need for regular exposure to light, and its nightly WWVB synchronization, it's a little like owning a Tamagotchi with 28 time zones! In terms of regular user attention, I wanted this 'elegant beater' to be utterly maintenance and carefree. I'll set it when it needs setting and every seven years or so, take it in for a new battery and seal-check. OK, finish...there's nothing I like better than an exquisite brushed or polished finish in high grade stainless steel. But that same gleaming steel shows scratches, debris and fingerprints, and tends to draw attention when and where least desired. This watch needs to keep a lower profile and not reveal the loving neglect I intend to bestow upon it. "Stealth", But NO black plastic case; I'm not 17 anymore! Looks like Black Ion Plated S.S. is called for here. Also, any visible print must be subdued and held to an absolute minimum. And while we're at it, how about 'reverse' LCD displays for the secondary functions with EL backlighting, and a high contrast, easily read dial. And another thing we can lose it the ubiquitous resin g-Shock strap. I want a matte black IP plated steel bracelet with deployant buckle. And finally, the price must not be a dime over $150...this is a G-Shock, not an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak!Well, that narrowed the selection down to the G-702BD or the older model G-700. The 'no nonsense' display, easier readability, and yes, the relative scarcity of the G-702 clinched the decision in its favor. Unlike the famous classics like the DW5600 and DW9052, I've never seen one of these on anybody!
So there you have it...the 'elegant', atypical, stealthy, carefree, high material quality affordable G-Shock: The Cockpit Series G-702BD-1A; available almost nowhere!

Casio General Men's Watches Islamic Prayer Compass CPW-310-1VDS - WW Review

Casio General Men's Watches Islamic Prayer Compass CPW-310-1VDS - WWI bought this watch for my dear husband. He loves it. Only thing is that sometimes you need to use the function to find the Qiblah (prayer direction), multiple times to be sure because sometimes it gives different readings. Other than that it is a great watch, and I would recommend it to the Muslims as an every prayer reminder to help us all get closer to our Lord through each prayer.

Casio Pathfinder Solar Atomic Watch #PAW500T-7V Review

Casio Pathfinder Solar Atomic Watch #PAW500T-7VJust received the PAW-500T. It is a nice watch, cheapest on web from Amazon.

Initial thoughts:

This is a regular size watch, i am used to wearing bigger watches, so the smaller size was somewhat of a surprise. (I expected it to be smaller, but not by this much...)

The band and case color is "titanium", which is somewhat darker than silver. Also, the metal is not polished, so it is not shiny either. So if you are looking for a watch that has a more reserved look, this is it.

Also, in spite of being a member of the new "slim" line, the watch still seems relatively tall, due partly to the smaller diameter. I have a feeling that this watch was designed with women in mind (who like outdoors, nevertheless) - even the somewhat narrow band is specified as "womens-standard".

Other impressions:

- It might be not really thin, but it is surprisingly light weight. That is a plus. (Case and band are BOTH made of titanium.)
- It measures temperature as well (which is also a plus).
- The big sensor on the side looks somewhat silly.
- "Multi band 5" makes it a real globetrotter watch...

Men looking for something more substantial should buy the PAW-1300T instead (another "slim" Patfinder for 2009).

Casio Forester Digital Fishing Watch with Illuminater Ft-200w-1 Review

Casio Forester Digital Fishing Watch with Illuminater Ft-200w-1This is the best watch ever i have looked for what seems like forever for it since the one I had broke where the band attaches tothe watch. I have given them away as gifts with the same results for them. These are people who can get any watch they want and prefer this one. It seems like Casio is makeing it harder and harder to find. I miss the stainless steel band of the watch that broke so even though it does not match i put it on this watch and it looks alright but I still like it better that the cheap rubber one that came with it. Please ask the people at Casio to make the waych more avaible and not to change it or modernize it. It is great the way it is.

Casio Men's CMD40F-7CB Technoware TV/Cable Remote Control Watch Review

Casio Men's CMD40F-7CB Technoware TV/Cable Remote Control WatchI bought this to replace an old one of over 10 years ago. Works well with
single TVs amd single VCRs (both limited in Brands that will work with watch.) CASIO needs to update for DVDs and combination TV/VCR &/or DVD
players. But they probably will not. Too bad -- could be hot seller.

Can go into a restaurant, and if they have the right model, you can
control their TV. At home, you can amaze family and friends with this

Casio Men's PAG50-1V Pathfinder Solar Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Triple Sensor Watch Review

Casio Men's PAG50-1V Pathfinder Solar Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Triple Sensor WatchLet me start out by saying this: I am a hopeless watch collector. The bigger the size and the more nifty options they offer the better.I am also VERY partial to Casio products specifically because of my past history owning many models and their incredible durability.
With that said, I have been (as of late, anyway) collecting Altimeter/Barometer/Digital-Compass watches, mostly from the VERY well made Suunto Observer, X-Lander, X6HR and the really BIG GPS Suunto X9, along with the HighGear Axis and Summit models and when I discovered Casio manufactured a model that also offers several of the same options, I knew I had to have it.I wanted the Titanium model, and almost wish I had spent the extra $ (which really wasn't that much extra, by the way) but the rubber strap version is still great and quite durable.
Initial reaction was a VERY NICE looking instrument.I am particularly happy that Casio went with a mineral crystal lens rather than something cheaper. It IS large (but still smaller than my X-Lander and virtually tiny compared to the Suunto X9) but is surprisingly lightweight and comfortable on my wrist.I own 2 other Casio Solar powered watches so picking up a 3rd watch that I can enjoy without worrying about battery replacement was a very nice plus.
It wasn't until I sat down to calibrate the watch that I decided this would be a 4-star review instead of 5.As I mentioned before, owning several other Altimeter/Barometer/Digital-Compass watches, I was rather familiar with how to do this, and maybe it was ignorance, but I stupidly thought that this particular model would be calibrated in much the same way...NOT SO.Both Suunto and HighGear make it so simple a totally in-experienced person can calibrate the compass and the altimeter with ease. With the Casio Pathfinder (at least with this particular model) you need a separate compass in order to correctly set the internal digital-compass which is ridiculously complicated when compared with the other watches I mentioned. One item I DID like was how you can adjust the temperature reading to compensate for your own body heat, which affects pretty much every watch I am familiar with that has this feature.
One other small item that bugged me was the day, month and year feature at the bottom of the screen being backwards -- at least for us Americans who are used to Day/Month/Year rather than Year/Month/Day.It can throw you a bit -- until you get used to it.
The Barometer graph is useful when keeping track of weather trends (although the HighGear Axis & Summit will go one step further and give you an actual weather icon predicting the next day's weather, whether cloudy, sunny or rainy it shows up right on the screen. So even if you don't fully understand how to read Barometric trend, the watch does it for you -- really slick) and when I compared it with my other watches, I noticed it seemed to be right on the money each time.
The Digital Compass, while a pain in the arse calibrate is easily the coolest looking.Casio has virtually perfected how to project a slightly see-thru LCD image above the regular watch image which gives you all the necessary functions of a normal compass.I give Casio HIGH marks just for how good it looks.LOW marks for how difficult it was to calibrate, and I imagine I may have to do some additional adjusting as I put it to actual use.
The Altimeter, as with ALL watches like this is totally at the mercy of the weather. As weather patterns abruptly change, so too can the altitude reading.I understand Nike has an Altimeter watch which compensates for this and gives extremely accurate readings, but I'll wait to comment on that until after I get one (which I probably will sooner or later). This is only slightly annoying for someone like me who uses my altimeter only sparingly, I can see this could be a HUGE problem for the average Hiker or Mountain Climber, or worse yet, Base Jumper. But since this seems to affect pretty much ALL Altimeter watches in the same way, I suppose the problem is moot for me, but not necessarily for YOU.
As with pretty much everything you purchase, doing your homework will ensure you will not waste your money on something you don't need, or worrying about purchasing something with a bad track record.I would imagine I fall somewhere in the middle.Other than the calibration pain, I feel this is a nice electronic gadget which I will no doubt enjoy for years to come.

Casio Men's GW500AJP-1AV G-Shock Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's GW500AJP-1AV G-Shock Solar Atomic WatchHaving owned the GW500AJP-1AV for a week, here are my thoughts on some of the points raised by the reviewers of this and other G-Shock models:

1. In my opinion, concerns about the thickness of the watch have been overstated. Certainly, if slimness is an *important* criterion for you, this isn't your watch. But you'll have no trouble fitting it under your shirt cuff. [Though the manual cautions that doing so will hamper the solar function.] Even my ridiculously slender wrists support it - physically and (I hope) esthetically - without difficulty.

2. The G-Shock models are advertised as rugged. I'm not about to use mine as a hockey puck to put that to the test. But it certainly *feels* sturdy. [The thickness helps here.] And from what I've read about them elsewhere, they do shrug off a considerable amount of punishment.

3. Everyone's experience with receiving the timekeeping signal from Fort Collins will vary depending on the particulars of their location and the attention they pay to the manual. I live only 350 miles from the transmitter but with modestly sized mountains in between - which can be a dealbreaker. Although it took a longer period of motionlessness for the watch to lock in than the manual had told me to allow, it has received a strong signal ever since. [And keep in mind that the watch is accurate to 15 seconds a month even without synchronization.]

3. When I first unpacked the watch, the battery level was at Medium - which you would expect after it having been in a box for who knows how long. After 3 hours of direct exposure to bright sunlight [which you should do in the early morning to keep the watch from roasting], the battery level has remained High ever since.

4. The four control buttons are slightly recessed - for decreased vulnerability, I imagine. This means you will need to operate them with a directly perpendicular press by the edge of your fingernail, rather than an angled mashing under the meat of your fingertip. I can see why this irritates some people. [It did require a small mental adjustment on my part.] However, I think it was a legitimate design decision.

5. The leftmost of the three circular "gauges" at the top of the display is meant to mimic the sweep of a minute hand on an analog watch. Speaking as someone whose attachment to that visual "pie-slice" style of time reading has been my main reason for sticking with analog watches until now, I think it's a terrific idea. In practice, though, the gauge is too small to be useful for that purpose. [For my eyes, anyway.] However, I don't mind particularly - since I think the three gauges look cool simply as decoration.

6. Someone else commented that the black resin wrist band is not replaceable. I'm not sure if that's true. However, replacing it would be no casual affair. So if you won't be content with this kind of band, you should look for a different watch. I prefer leather bands myself. But this one is in keeping with the toughness of the rest of the watch and certainly comfortable enough to wear.

On the whole, I'm very happy with this purchase. If you enjoy having an accurately set timepiece - and who doesn't? - it's difficult to overstate the satisfaction of radio-synchronization. A good mechanical watch is accurate to 5 seconds a day. A good quartz watch is accurate to less than 1 second a day. As long as it's in signal range, this watch will be accurate to less than 1 second for the next 60 million years [http://tf.nist.gov/cesium/fountain.htm] - or at least until the US government stops broadcasting, at which point you'll probably have other things to worry about. When someone asks you for the time, you will be able to give them *The* time.

Casio Men's PAG110C-3 Pathfinder Solar Eco-Green Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's PAG110C-3 Pathfinder Solar Eco-Green Digital WatchI have been using my new watch for about 3 weeks now and the amount of features is awesome! The only downside to buying online is that you don't really get an idea of the dimensions of the product. In my case, this green monster was not as bulky as my previous Pathfinder (which I hoped it would be), but apart from that, awesome watch with an amazing amount of features in such a compact design. Really nice "green" statement all around :-)

Casio Men's PAW1100-1V Pathfinder Atomic Solar Watch Review

Casio Men's PAW1100-1V Pathfinder Atomic Solar WatchI've been happy with this watch, and it takes getting used to a pressure-based altimeter to realize how to use it best... if you're familiar with the concept of setting a reference altitude, you'll figure it out just fine.

It's reasonably robust, though one button has seemingly shifted inward slightly, requiring a much firmer press, after a fall to a rock ledge while hiking. So be it, I can't blame Casio for me juggling my watch and dropping it, can I?

The battery life is such that I generally (almost always) leave the "auto-backlight" turned off, as it will run the battery to low at times if I sleep with the watch on, turning its backlight on when I shift in my sleep.

Two points that I can't make sense of in the slightest, which are: first off, and this truly a pure software question, for some reason the countdown timer does not go longer than an hour, which I don't appreciate; secondly, it would be fantastic if there were a single button or button combination to return to the main time screen, from which you can access barometer, altimeter, and compass functions. It is a bit irritating to have to go through six screens while looking at the watch to find your way back.

One other small note, the backlight will not stay lit when you press any button, so you need to light the backlight, press whichever button you'd like, and then re-illuminate to confirm the step taken.

The longer timer and the backlight remaining on were two points that timex got right with my cheap nearly disposable ironman digital, it's odd that casio hasn't had the sense to fix these minor points.

Don't expect the watch to update to atomic time every night... some nights it fails to hook up, and that's not really a terribly big deal...

All in all, very happy, though some aspects of the interface are a little bit user unfriendly. Also, aseveryone else has said here already, the thermometer doesn't work in any meaningful way while the watch is on your wrist. If you want to spend hundreds more, get a suunto with gps, but for my money, and with the functional solar power, I'm quite happy with the watch.

One other minor point, in respect to criticism in quite a few reviews here, I've not had any issue with the excess of the band not remaining in the retaining loop, there is a ramped spot on the end of the band that seems to do a great job keeping it in place. Not sure if this is a design refinement or not, but I've not had any issue in that area.

Casio Men's PAW1300-3V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Green Watch Review

Casio Men's PAW1300-3V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Green WatchI have owned two Casio G-shock watches over a span exceeding a decade.I always liked the G-shock, but alas the viewing light recently stopped working and it was time to try something with a few more features. After quite a bit of searching I settled on the Pathfinder (model PAW 1300 - 3v) and I believe I made the correct personal choice.

Before actually receiving the watch from Amazon I was definitely concerned about the overall size of this watch. From my research I was half afraid I would end up with a geeky watch the size of a dinner plate on my wrist. Moreover, I don't have a big wrist to begin with so this was a real concern.I was pleasantly surprised that although slightly larger in circumference than a standard watch, this watch was not nearly as large as I had imagined. In fact, the difference between this model (1300) and the previous model (1200) is the size. The 1200 is nearly identical in features but is quite a bit thicker than the newer 1300 model. This Pathfinder sits nicely on my wrist and does not look unusual.

Practically speaking, this watch has a lot of nice features that I like, such as the compass, the automatic display light, atomic synchronization, and the solar power to note a few. While I would easily purchase this watch again, I might consider the model with the metal band.I say this because somehow with the price of this watch I was expecting it to have a bit more panache to it, if that makes any sense. This watch is fairly light weight and somehow looks characteristically similar to a lot of other pedestrian plastic-band watches out there. That may be fine for people who want just a plainish looking watch, but somehow the metal band version might look a bit nicer, although perhaps not as ruggedly practical.

I haven't had this watch long enough to judge its overall durability, but if my former G-shock watches are any indication, this Pathfinder should hold up just fine.

Casio Men's SPF40-1V Sea Pathfinder Tide Watch Review

Casio Men's SPF40-1V Sea Pathfinder Tide WatchThis is an excellent watch for outdoorsy types, especially for those who sail, kayak or surf. With a compass, barometer, thermometer, and tide/moon tracking, it provides essential (potentially life-saving) information in an easy to use package.

The compass is seems accurate and is easy to calibrate. It is ideally suited for emergency navigation and for casual use such as trail hiking and river boating. I'm not sure I'd want to use it as my only compass for serious hiking or over the horizon boating, but perhaps that's just my distrust of electronics in mission critical environments.

The barometer is a little more hit-or-miss. It's accuracy is questionable given its fluctuation with altitude or temperature. This is not a Casio problem - it happens with all barometers especially wrist-mounted. Despite these issues the barometrer does a fair job of tracking the trend over the last 24 hours. Serious moutaineers may miss the multi-day tracking and using the barometer as altimeter, but most will appreciate it for the simple data it provides. I wish there were more display options, like a large multiday graph option for instance, but the small graph is fine.

Temp fluctuates when this is worn on the wrist, but not too much - perhaps a couple of degrees hotter than true outside temperature. It may be less accurate in cold temperatures than hot, but I'll have to wait a few months to test that theory.

The tide and moon features are what make this watch unique among triple-sensor watches, so I imagine that will be a key selling point for most. Both work well enough, though they will not replace a tide chart. The tide graph shows the general point in the cycle, but not with great accuracy. It's really only possible to estimate high tide with an hour or two. It would be nice of the actual hightide time were displayed or at least the graph had greater specificity. The moon tracking is a nice touch, since it allows one to estimate the size of the tides (spring and neap). But it's only an estimate - the watch does not tie moon and tide data together, leaving it to the user to figure it out. Some other tide watches actually have charts built-in that provide much more accurate data for particlar beaches, but are limited to limited spots. Since the Casio use longitude and other data to estimate the tide, it is less accurate for specific spots but more usefull overall. The ability to forcast the moon phase days in the future, but not to do the same for tide, leaves me wondering what they were thinking.

Other features of the watch include a countdown timer, stopwatch, and five alarms, which are all just fine. The five alarms cannot be set by day, but I suppose if you want to set a time for each day and just activate it as necessary that does the job. If you use the stopwatch and coundown timers frequently you may find switching between the two annoying, since they use the same function (you just set the the countdown timer to zero to put it in stopwatch mode). Also there are no lap-timers.

Downsides to the watch basically boil down to compleixity and size. While the watch is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it, it is not entirely intuitive an all screens, and requires some memorization. Setting the tide data requires far too much research on the internet, and casio should provide better data either in the manual or on their website about how to set the data for most large coastal cities and popular recreation areas. The size of the watch is HUGE. It is larger even than the Suunto watches with similar features. The biggest annoyance I have with the size is the height, which is made unnecisarily taller by the rotating bezel. But for some the size won't matter (some may like it) so it is really a matter of taste.

Overall the eatch offers a great set of tools for most casual uses and does it at a very reasonable price. I recommend it to casual adventurers unconcerned about the size.

Casio Men's PAG80T-7V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's PAG80T-7V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital WatchThis was purchased as a gift for a good friend. We both prefer fairly sizable timepieces, so its size had no bearing on our selection. This was intended, by me, as more of a high end "gimmick gift", rather than to be used to scale Mount Everest. However, we have found numerous and legitimate uses for this type of product. I own a Suunto "Observer", priced about $100 more, and can find no overt differences between the two.As a matter of fact, the edge may go to Casio because of the solar power. Both require that you remove them from your wrist for 10 minutes to get an accurate outdoor temperature reading. This seemed to be one of the common complaints about this device. That same very phenomenon is also clearly stated in a Suunto manual, Suunto considered to be much higher end and definitely more expensive. The Suunto and Casio manual also clearly states that the device is not to be used for flying, parachuting, or other potentially life-threatening situations that require extreme precision. We have found that both the Casio and Suunto are quite impressive, and in an emergency could possibly, repeat possibly, be used for the above activities (flying, would require an unpressurized cabin). It will certainly be an asset for the day hiker.I have seen a Suunto model on the wrist of a climber who had climbed Mount Everest (magazine picture). Is it worth the price?I think that all depends on what you want it for.We use these instruments for outdoor photography. Having an extremely accurate compass on your wrist really helps when estimating the position of the sun, the time, and other ancillary functions complete the package.I have found my Suunto, and my friend his Casio (this model), to be well worth the investment.

The altimeter offers 5-meter measurements from -700 to 10,000 meters, and it can store altitude, month, date and time data, provide tendency and differential graphs, track cumulative ascent/descent, and sound an alarm when you reach a specified altitude. The watch also has a digital compass with 16 points of measurement displayed on the dial face. Other environmental and timekeeping features include:

Barometer with atmospheric pressure tendency/differential graphics
    Thermometer
World Time: 29 times zones (30 cities), city code display, daylight saving on/off

Casio Men's PAG80-1V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's PAG80-1V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital WatchWith this watch you can't go wrong. First, even though one variation will sync with the Atomic clock for about $40-50$ more, don't waste your money. This watch stays within just a second or two per month accuracy. In addition to keeping time, the capabiity to select a world zone by a city and then use that dual clock is as simple as it gets.

As usual, Casio makes a watch that does not take a genuis to learn to use - even without reading the manual. Determining how to use the Altimeter, Barometer, and electronic compass is virtually self-explanatory. You do need to know that you have to manually synchronize the altimeter in order to ensure your readings are correct during a given time period. The only way to prevent this is to have a watch that could triangulate its altitude from satelites and to my knowledge, that dog hasn't been born. However, that being said, the importance lies in the fact that you have a tracking graph that indicates a 24 hour history of changes in both the barometer and altitude. That's what's really important so that even if the altitude settings are off, or the barometric pressure setting is temporarily incorrect, you can look at the graph and know the relative change. For instance, if the graph indicates dropping pressure over the past few hours, you can pretty much assume, the weather is probably going to move from good to bad (low pressure usually indicates a weather front is coming through or rain developing).

One nice surprise is that when using the watch at night, a simple tilt of the wrist toward your face will cause the back light to temporarily come on. I.e., you don't have to push the button. I never saw this function in the ads or in the manual.

Finally, it is well built and although reasonably large by watch standards, it is comfortable for a man. I'm not sure most women would want to wear it though. You can't go wrong with this watch. Just make sure it is this model because some of the others close to the same price do not have all of these functions.

Product Description:
Set a course for adventure every day you wear this solar-powered Casio Pathfinder Triple Sensor men's digital watch (model PAG80-1V), which includes a built-in digital compass, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer. This extra-large, round watch features large function buttons that are easily accessible even when wearing gloves. Both the case and strap are made from durable resin. The digital compass displays 16 directions and has a 5-set memory capacity that captures direction, month, date, and measurements time data. The altimeter measures up to 32,800 feet (10,000 meters) in 20-foot (5-meter) increments, and it can store 50 sets of altitude memory with date and temperature. It also provides a target altitude alarm and graphing capability for target and altitude tendency.
Because it's solar-powered--charging in either sunlight or indoor light--you'll never have to deal with changing the battery. Light enters the watch through the sapphire crystal and dial, and hits a solar cell beneath the dial. Current is created and stored in the battery. The duplex LCD provides two liquid crystal panels, enabling you to select from among different display patterns.
It offers a 1/100-second stopwatch with a 60-minute measuring capacity and elapsed time, split time, and 1st/2nd place time modes. It also includes a yacht timer, which is used to time the start of regattas. The countdown period can be set from 1 to 10 minutes. An acoustic signal is emitted after each minute has elapsed and then once a second for the last ten seconds. Other timekeeping functions include a daily alarm, optional hourly time signal, and 12/24-hour formats. Other features include a comfortable resin strap, scratch-resistant mineral crystal, AfterGlow LED electro-luminescent backlight, and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet).

Casio Pathfinder PAW1500 Altimeter Watch Review

Casio Pathfinder PAW1500 Altimeter WatchI recently received this watch as a gift, as I already owned a Casio Pathfinder PAW1300G-1V (the earlier model), and it was thought that I would appreciate the upgrade.

In short, this is a nice watch, but there aren't that many features over the PAW1300 line to justify the increased size.Unfortunately, in spite of these new features, I find that I still go back to the PAW1300 as my daily watch, simply because it's a better package as a whole.

There are three major new features in the PAW1500 series that are not in the PAW1300:

-- Tide calculator
-- Moon phase calculator
-- Water resistant to 200m (instead of 100m)

The increased water resistance is terrific, as this turns the Pathfinder into an actual diving watch, instead of a mere snorkeling watch. But the other two features, in my opinion, are underwhelming, and the cost in the module's case-size are quite great.

To whit:the PAW1300 is 47.4mm round and 11.5mm thick. The PAW1500 is 51mm round and 13.9mm thick. This may not sound like a big difference, but side-by-side, it's palpable. Before obtaining this watch, the PAW1300G-1V was the largest one I owned (in a close tie with the Seiko Orange Monster). Now this watch completely dwarfs it.It's so big, I feel like I can use this watch to deflect bullets, Wonder-Woman-style.

(If you like big watches, then don't listen to me.If you don't care, but want this watch anyway, then get ready for the predictable, "Good thing that watch is water-resistant to 200 meters, because you'll need it when that watch drags you down to the bottom of the ocean"-type jokes from your friends, and even strangers.)

Additionally, the 1500PAW has some shortcuts, like the countdown timer. The PAW1500 only has a "yacht" timer, which means that you can count down only from a maximum of 60 minutes.Instead, the PAW1300 has a full 24-hour countdown timer, which is something I use frequently. To find this feature crippled in the PAW1500 was a disappointment.(Also, the altimeter only has a 20-record capacity in the PAW1500 compared to the 40 records in the PAW1300, but I don't think many people will be affected by this.)

The PAW1500 does have one minor pro that I should mention:the information is better-displayed than it is on the PAW1300.Despite the watch's large size, there is technically less space in the LCD display for numeric/text/icon information, but to me the information is presented with a cleaner layout and is more intuitive to read.I.e., I think it makes the best of what it has, and I wish that the PAW1300 had done a better job in this regard.

In short:if you are looking to get a cool outdoor-gizmo watch, this one will deliver heaps of features in spades. The solar power is awesome, and once you have atomic syncing, you'll never go back. The other features, when you learn how to use them, are extremely powerful in combination.

Still, I would advise that you be honest with yourself.Do you really need 200m water resistance, and calculators for tides and moon-phases?(And do you really want a watch the size of a beverage coaster?)If not, then I would recommend that you take a look at the PAW1300 series. It's considerably cheaper, and the size is less obnoxious.

(The PAW1300G-1V in particular is noteworthy in that the band is not integrated with the case, but can be swapped out for standard one-piece 22mm bands, like the Zulu or NATO straps.)

There have been many generations of Pathfinder watches over the past several years, and to me, the PAW1300 feels like the golden version:the Pathfinder done right (well 90% right).Unfortunately, the PAW1500 feels like an awkward, next-generation compromise in order to pack in those few extra features.Maybe the PAW1600 will be an improvement.

As a final note:I see a lot of reviews for the Casio Pathfinders complaining about the lack of accuracy. Please note that these watches need to be calibrated to local conditions if you want them to be truly accurate, and even still, you should fully understand how the features work (and the basic science behind them) if you want to get the best use of these watches. If you are looking for a zero-maintenance, GPS-quality dashboard for you wrist, I would recommend looking at the Garmin Foretrex 101 (while a terrific piece of equipment, it's not solar-powered, and will require changing the AAA batteries every 10 hours).

Casio Men's SGW100B-3V Digital Compass Twin Sensor Green Nylon Band Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's SGW100B-3V Digital Compass Twin Sensor Green Nylon Band Sport WatchI bought this watch recently and as any Casio watch its great looking and worth fully for the price tag. Compass, World timer, Stop watch, Alarm and timer features are great and easy to operate. My only complain is the thermometer which I find practically useless. The instruction manual says watch sensor needs 30 min to adjust to the atmospheric temperature. For instance if you take your watch from warm place to a cold environment it will give erroneous readings for 30 mins!! And if you are wearing your watch, you can't depend on the reading at all since body temperarture will ridiculously increase the reading even in a cold winter day! If you take off your watch and try to measure.. you have to wait 30 mins to get accurate readings. So this sensor is not useful at all for measuring temperature when you are outdoors. Other than this, I like the watch.

Casio Men's WV58A-1AV Waveceptor Atomic Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's WV58A-1AV Waveceptor Atomic Digital WatchThis watch has the features, weight/feel that I wanted for work. (HEMS)
The "atomic time" feature coincides exactly with our helicopter's Garmin 530 radios. The backlight lasts long enough after pressing to write down and view times without repeating over and over again. The only reason I gave a 3/5 is the watch arrived without instructions.None.
I do not know if that was a Seller issue (Chelsea) or Manufacturer. (Casio)I have enough gadgetology experience that I could eventually figure it out.I prefer instructions and if I cannot find any on-line, it may take a while.(Syncing the radio signal, changing from Central Time to Pacific, changing the 12 hr format to 24 hr, etc.)Overall, this is exactly what I have been looking for.

Addendum:Go to Casio's website.Enter in the 4 (or 3) digit number from the back of your watch and it has a library of all the relevant instructions manuals in pDF format.Which, come to think of it, is a little easier to read than those manuals they usually put under the display box.But it is an additional hassle if you don't have internet access.

Casio Men's PAW1500T-7V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Ultimate Watch Review

Casio Men's PAW1500T-7V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Ultimate WatchI've owned a lot of great watches over my 30 years of adulthood -- from inexpensive Timexes to my beloved Movado -- but THIS ONE is SOMETHING SPECIAL! Why "special"? Because, simply, it does everything it is advertised to do; and it does well, and with a touch of class!

Casio obviously put a lot of thought into the design of this watch and its features. The digital compass is the snappiest and most accurate I have found in a watch. The altimeter is a gem....accurate to within 5 meters (or about 20 feet). The barometer is quite sensitive and the trend graph on the watch face has proven to be very useful. The thermometer works great and, if kept a short distance from the warming effects of the skin, is very accurate and sensitive. The atomic clock update works like a charm here in Virginia.....takes about 3 minutes for an accurate "fix" each night. The motion sensor that turns on the face light in dark areas when you tilt the watch towards your face is terrific....especially in a dark car when you can't take your hands off the wheel to check the time....but the watch face lights up as you tilt your arm towards your face. Now how cool is that????!!!!

A couple of lessons learned since I brought this gem home: READ the owner's manual! Yes, it's complex and will take a couple of hours to go through carefully....but it will save you endless frustration and will tailor this watch exactly to your own needs and desires. It's a VERY complex watch.....but once you get it set up (ie, power-use modes; metric or English measurements; tides set to your beach, etc....), it becomes an incredibly useful tool that you will be consulting frequently throught each day and night.

A second lesson learned: follow the instructions and CAREFULLY calibrate your "reference altitude" and the barometer. The best instructions for doing this, in tandem, and taking into account ambient temperature, is critical and is well-laid out towards the END of the instruction manual....in the "Reference" section. Accurate calibration of the altimeter and the barometer are dependent on the ambient temperature....so read those instructions....they are well-written and take you step-by-step through the short process.

This watch may look big.....but it's not as big as some other watches I have owned. It's thinner than the G-Shocks.....and sits on my very lean wrist quite nicely. The watch is designed to be worn OUTSIDE long-sleeve clothing to allow proper charging of the solar battery....and be most useful as a reference instrument! When wearing short-sleeve shirts or T-s, I put a 1" sports wristband on my wrist first....then put the watch over it. Works like a champ.....and tends to keep the thermometer, barometer, altimeter a whole lot more accurate with the slight seperation from body temperature. (I use the Under Armour 1" Performance Wristbands under the watch.....and they disappear beneath the watch...but allow the watch to sit very confortably and securely on your wrist....yet not add any significant "bulk." You can find them here at Amazon (good price!) and in sporting goods stores.)

Bottom line: if you enjoy cutting-edge technical gadgets that work REAL WELL.....AND serve a very useful purpose.....AND enjoy top-notch quality......AND great support from the folks at Casio (check out their website!).....this is the watch for you. It's gem!
