Casio Men's PAW1300B-4 Pathfinder Slim Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's PAW1300B-4 Pathfinder Slim Solar Atomic WatchSo far so good. I bought this Pathfinder a month and a half ago to replace a Casio Atomic Solar G-Shock whose recessed buttons had become too difficult to press without resorting to the tip of a ballpoint. My son says it's because i have fat fingers. I don't. And anyway, they're no fatter now than they were 18 months ago when I bought the G-Shock and had no trouble with the buttons. G-Shocks seem to do that. On the other hand, I beat the tar out of watches, which is why G-Shocks have always been my first choice. They really can take abuse and shrug it off. I've always felt they had everything I needed, so I was tentative about shelling out twice as much for a Pathfinder that seemed to have a lot of things i didn't need. On the other hand, I do a lot of hiking, have no sense of direction, often gear my agenda by the weather and I'm busy enough for it to matter to me how much time things take. Besides, I had to buy something.

So here, at the 50-day mark, is how that decision turned out. The PAW-1300B-4 (hereafter referred to as simply the Pathfinder) is billed as "slim," and I guess by comparison with most other expedition-type watches it is. It doesn't dwarf my wrist, but it's clearly a presence (the unnecessary bronze color may have something to do with that) and its footprint if not its thickness makes the old G-Shock look small. On the principle of bad news/good news, here's the bad news in my opinion: Some may like the bronze colored bezel; I don't hate it, but I'd have preferred simple black, which i didn't find available. The shiney black inner liner just inside the bezel has a lot of hashmarks and gradient arrows. That's frippery. And like virtually all the type on the surround of the watch the identifying type on that ring is too small to read easily. That's a function of a watch designed by folks who never tried out their designs in practice. Both the black and bronze bezels scratch immediately. Mine already has two scars, acquiring the first minutes after I opened the box. Another piece of silliness is the indigo-colored ring on the extreme outside of the face itself. A black dot travels around the indigo track indicating the passage of seconds. Why? This is a digital watch and it shows the changing seconds digits in the lower third of the face. The little indigo racetrack just absorbs dial space that could have been better used to make some of the ancillary symbols and type (which are now much too minute) larger. More self-congratulatory design candy. Space allocation in the design of the face is adequate if not optimal. For example, in barometer mode, the most useful element, the weather trend graph, is crammed into the smallest space. You can read it, but you have to squint. Meanwhile, the inches of mercury (I changed mine to those units because it's what I'm used to) numbers are huge, even though they're arguably less immediately useful. The thermometer has so far been useless. It's always higher than the true temp. If it consistently read the same amount higher than the true ambient temperature, minor mental math would make it useful. But it varies all over the map, sometimes 15 degrees too high, sometimes as many as 25. That failure disappoints me because an accurate temperature reading would have been a useful feature. I've never tried to use the altimeter feature because, frankly, I don't care how many feet above sea level I am and since I don't climb mountains, and no longer rock climb, I probably never will. The watchband, made of plastic that does not remotely look like leather, with cheap looking contrasting stitching, with a bronze accent patch and a recessed inset strip of some grey material that looks like plastic but seems to absorb water, is in my opinion another triumph of cosmetics over common sense. Of course some people will like it. Some people may even like the velcro-adjustable strap that secures the tail of the watchband. Why velcro? Why adjustable? When I rest my wrist on a desktop it feels like I've put it down on a marble. And that bulky strap invariably catches and hangs up when you pull on the sleeve of a sweat shirt or shrug into a jacket that has tight cuffs. I would have preferred the tough black resin watchband used on the G-Shock. And this little confection can't be changed for something better.

You're probably wondering why I gave the Pathfinder four stars. Okay, the good news: Casio packed a lot of functionality into a watch case that can be worn without making accommodations. I love the atomic timekeeping for obvious reasons. Ditto the solar. I think you'd have to live in a cave to have power problems. I've never had less than full power. I wear a watch to know what time it is--the digits that do that are large and easily read and the day and date are clear. It's all the key information in one shot, no buttons. Speaking of buttons, one of my prime complaints about my old G-Shock was the recessed buttons. Yes, I understand the logic. Nevertheless, inherently bad idea. By contrast, the Pathfinder buttons are large, pressed easily, and the action is crisp and positive. And I've yet to find that any of the buttons have been pressed by accident. If you orient the compass properly initially, it works quite well and matches the accuracy of my in-car compass and a lensatic compass that I've used in the past when hiking in more remote areas. The degree reading on the compass is twitchy, but it's consistent which is more important than accurate. I haven't tried it on the water yet, but it works fine for land navigation. The barometer function is where the Casio really shines. The trend graph though small has been dead accurate, maybe a little more so than my pricey bedroom weather station, and the pressure readings are remarkably close to those on the weather station.

So far I've worn this watch hiking in misty rainy conditions, while playing tennis, building a deck, stripping paint with a vibrating rotary stripper and nothing has fazed it. The band may not be to my taste, but it soldiers through sweat and spray from a power washer and dried off quickly. Using the stop watch while driving is a piece of cake and the countdown timer has been extremely useful in the kitchen. I do wish this Pathfinder had been ruggedized to match the G-Shock and given the same resin case. And I'd be delirious if Casio would figure out that alarms should be optionally audible or vibrating or both, as is the case with cell phones.

Only time will tell how well this Pathfinder will hold up, but so far, so good. If asked today would I buy it again, knowing its plusses and minuses, the answer would be "Yes."

Casio Men's AWS90-7AV Ana-Digi Tough Solar Alarm Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AWS90-7AV Ana-Digi Tough Solar Alarm Sport WatchThis watch has a whole lot of amazing features. To start off, it's solar powered!Solar collectors around the watch face recharge it's battery during the day.I love that it's got Analog stylings but the added option of Digital time keeping. It has glow in the dark numbers for 12, 9, and 3 along with back-lighting of the digital screen. There's more interesting features though.A couple of features you won't find on your average watch are it's power save mode, and it's auto-back-lighting feature.

The Auto Light Switch is controlled by a couple sensors which detect when you've raised your wrist to look at the watch and what the availble light is.If this feature is enabled, and it's dark, and you tilt your wrist to see the time the back light turns on and illuminates the digital readout auto matically.

The Power Save mode will conserve power during the night by putting the watch into a "sleep" mode just like computers have to conserve power.During the day it draws power from the sun to recharge it's internal battery so power save mode only activates during the night. The watch will awaken automatically for a ton of different reasons.Touch a button, tilt your wrist, or move to a lighted area, or just by the time of day progressing awakens the watch.

The worst things about the watch are that it tends to get scratched.I hear that car polish can rejuvinate the face of the watch, and I'm going to try something like that to fix some small scratches mine recieved. Also, the rubber band will wear out after heavy use.I'm the type that almost never takes off their watch for long. However, I do tend to take it off frequently for short periods to let my skin breathe.I wear it so much my skin under the plastic band has it pretty rough, but this is true with all watches of this type.I think the heavy use is the biggest the cause of the wear on the band, but the plastic may be slightly weaker than average in an attempt to make it more soft and comfortable. The final negative aspect I can think of is that only the digital portion features back-lighting, not the full face.Wait one more thing, the standard digital functions are lacking a count down feature, so if you're expecting that, you're out of luck.

The positives far out way the negatives for me though. This is one of the coolest watches I've ever seen!I love analog/digital watches.I think they merge style and function best, giving me the flexibility to read either indication of time depending on what I'm in the mood for.I think that this watch especially has great style and looks to it.The only thing that could make it better for me would be if it featured some sort of titanium watch band or something. This is an awesome watch and if you like the looks and you like the features I've mentioned then you'll probably really like this watch. It's got everything, including a standard set of watch functions that like every Casio digital watch has so I won't bore you with those. This is a great watch for any techie type that likes nifty gadgets!

Casio Men's AQ190WD-1A Multi-Task Gear Sports Watch Review

Casio Men's AQ190WD-1A Multi-Task Gear Sports WatchI am a diabetic and use a watch with multiple alarms to keep me on schedule. My Citizen Nighthawk had broken for the fourth time in the ten years I've owned it. Rather than spend the $125.00 to have it repaired again, I decided to look for something to replace it. Of the dozens of watches I researched, this one came up with all of the features I was looking for at a very reasonable price. So far, it's working fine. Check back with me in a couple of years, to see if I'm still as happy.

Casio Men's G7900-1 G-Shock Rescue Digital Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's G7900-1 G-Shock Rescue Digital Sport WatchThis just arrived in the mail today and here are my observations:

It's a big watch but it doesn't feel like one.The cuffs on the inside of the band make this the most comfortable G-Shock I've ever owned - especially since I have a fairly small wrist.I had previously ordered the Gulfman because I wanted the Tide Graph but it just didn't fit right and it wasn't comfortable. After searching for another G-Shock with the Tide Graph I found this one (the G7900-1) and it's great.I like the fact that it has 5 alarms and a countdown timer in addition to all of the other features. The styling is nice and modern, it's easy to read, and the red button in the lower right side gives it a nice touch. The moon phase indicator is nice and large too.

Casio General Men's Watches Digital-Analog Combination with 10 Year Battery Life AQ-230GA-9BHDF - WW Review

Casio General Men's Watches Digital-Analog Combination with 10 Year Battery Life AQ-230GA-9BHDF - WW20 years ago I had another analog/digital two-tone watch that I loved.Eventually, it broke and I've been looking for a business ready replacement ever since. All the other analog/digital watches available seem to be sport or have those HUGE ugly faces with over sized digital parts.
I wanted
a) an analog gold watch with easy to read time
b) always on Month/Day Display
c) Digital watch - disconnected from the analog
d) 24 Alarm not 12 hour like my expensive chronograph
e) Simple stopwatch

I do wish that the analog watch face were slightly larger since I have large arms/hands, but besides that, it is exactly what it appears to be.An uncomplicated analog/digital watch that won't look out of place at the office, but will wake you up in the morning when traveling.Perfect.

And it is only $20, so if it last 10 years like the last one did, I'll bevery happy!

Casio Women's LQ139A-7B3 Classic Analog Watch Review

Casio Women's LQ139A-7B3 Classic Analog WatchI was thrilled to find a source for an all plastic watch that doesn't look so bulky. I'm HARD on watches so have learned not to spend a lot of money on them. But I'm also allergic to cheap metals (the kind they make the clasps with on cheap watches) so when I discovered all plastic watches a few years ago I was happy. But then the store here quit carrying them. :-( So I was glad to find just what I wanted on Amazon!

Casio Men's DB360-1AV Digital Databank Watch Review

Casio Men's DB360-1AV Digital Databank WatchI've been wearing the watch for about a month now, and it does work very well. A couple of notes aren't well disclosed, however:

- When I bought the watch, I assumed it was an all-metal construction, the pictures make it look like the bezel and the band are both stainless steel. In fact, the band is stainless, but the bezel is a somewhat cheap-looking chromed plastic. Not quite what I had in mind, but you get what you pay for.

- It is far too easy to switch into and out of daylight savings mode - Just holding down one of the buttons for a little over a second switches between them and automatically takes an hour off (or puts one back on) your time...This freaked me out a couple of times until I figured out what was happening.

Overall, a pretty good watch, but it isn't necessarily exactly what it looks.

Casio Men's W213D-1AVCF Basic Silver-Tone Bracelet Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's W213D-1AVCF Basic Silver-Tone Bracelet Digital WatchI bought this watch for its features. I particularly wanted a countdown timer which is hard to find on a dressier watch (as opposed to a huge clunky sport watch.) Note; the case is plastic not metal. If it is like other watches of this type the finish will wear off after awhile and the watch will look shoddy.I wouldn't mind paying more for a metal case. The band on this watch was much too big for my wrist. It can be adjusted but there is no mention of this in the instructions. You can go to the web to find out how.If you are handy you can do it yourself, however it is not easy. Otherwise you have to pay someone to do it.

Casio Men's G7301B-3V G-Shock Classic Digital Sports Watch Review

Casio Men's G7301B-3V G-Shock Classic Digital Sports WatchBought this for my son, for two features: solar power and yacht racing timer. Casio watches offer a good value, and each model offers a slightly different combination of features aimed at specific uses. The controls are intuitive for such a full-featured watch.

It was purchased when previous Casio Pathfinder waterproofing failed after an $[...] battery replacement by Casio, but it was beyond Casio warranty, so replacement with this watch was cheaper than repair of the old Pathfinder.Hopefully this watch will last longer, since it is solar powered and should not have to be serviced for a long time. My family is "hard on watches".We have owned several Casio watches and they perform well, and are as durable as any other watches in their price range.

Casio Men's Watch DBC1500B-1 Review

Casio Men's Watch DBC1500B-1I just purchased the second of this type of Casio calculator watch. My first had lasted around 20 years. It didn't have the "Night Glo Keypad" though.Trying to hit the right key in the dark was the only complaint I might have had.I enjoyed all the features of my old Casio DBC1500 watch. The telememo and schedule memo kept a lot of this info handy. The calculator, which I used a great deal when grocery shopping, was very convenient. The timer and alarm also came in very handy. All in all, this watch has a lot of features for a very reasonable price.I decided to buy a new one because I had scratched the crystal and put some nicks in the metal face of my old one.I also lost a couple of screws and a spring the last time I changed the battery.

Casio Men's Illuminator Sport Watch #W727H-1V Review

Casio Men's Illuminator Sport Watch #W727H-1VThis watch is not flashy. It does its job, and well at that.It keeps time without the glitter of "nice watches." I put it on when I got it, and have since not removed it much. I play soccer in it, sleep in it, shower in it, swim in it, run in it, work in it. It is strikingly weightless on your wrist. Very comfortable as well. It has not disappointed. I have several other watches which I love to look at and keep those for special occasions. Don't expect strangers to complement this piece. Its just not that eye candy. So if functionality and dependability are the priority, you are looking at it.

Casio Men's AWQ101B-2AVCF Blue Active Dial Multi-Task Gear Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AWQ101B-2AVCF Blue Active Dial Multi-Task Gear Sport WatchI expected more from this product, the thermometer was useless, as your body heat effected its output. The hands were a pain to set, and blocked your view of the date, or other things on the face of the watch, half the time.
I have decided to get Casio's fully digital fishing watch, without the thermometer.

Casio OC-500 Oceanus Bracelet (24mm, Stainless Steel) Review

Casio OC-500 Oceanus BraceletI had a Casio Oceanus with a broken rubberized type band sitting in a desk drawer for over two years because I couldn't find a replacement band for it.On a whim I did a search on Amazon and found they had both the rubber and stainless steel band available for this watch.I ordered the stainless, it came well packaged, no scratches. This band is quite heavy but I like it more than the old rubber one.I can now wear one of my favorite watches again!

Casio Men's W89HB-5AV Illuminator Sport Resin Strap Watch Review

Casio Men's W89HB-5AV Illuminator Sport Resin Strap WatchI bought this as a weekender, but it's almost my favorite watch. It's simple to operate -- has all the basic features without having to go through multiple nested functions just to use a feature.Very accurate, as measured against my atomic wall clock. It's large enough to be easy to read but very light - you hardly know you have it on.Easy to read at night with the illuminator feature. One note, the band is a bit large - mine's in the last notch and it's still a bit loose. It's hard to imagine better value for the money.Casio builds wonderful watches at all price points, and this one is just great.

Casio G-Shock Watch GWM5600-1CR Review

Casio G-Shock Watch GWM5600-1CRYou'd think with the "5600" suffix they would have just taken the venerable DW5600 and just added solar and atomic time - but they had to go and mess with it.In short, the watch has a couple "Huh?" moments that make you wonder what the designers were thinking:

Countdown timer is only an hour, not 24 hours - but the stopwatch goes for 999 hours.Huh?
Doesn't show time in all modes.(nice to have in the 5600)
No second time zone.(to be fair, the new 5600s dropped this too)
Can't set countdown in seconds, but it counts down in 1/10 seconds?(can't use it for interval training, this irked me the most)
No auto-repeat of timer.(same as above)

Plus I hear that the batteries in these solar models don't last any longer than if you bought a 5600 and just used regular ole dimestore lithiums - which are like a fifth the cost.Note that I didn't ding it for this, but go do your own research on how long the batteries really last if you are buying this in order to not have to buy batteries again.People have had 5600s running on their original batteries for ten years.

I sent this one back and bought a DW5600E.If the GW5000 turns out OK I might get one of those.

Casio Men's HDD600-1AV 10-Year-Battery Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's HDD600-1AV 10-Year-Battery Sport WatchThe photo shows the watch to have a cyan blue backlight. That is NOT what the watch comes with. The illuminator light is a simple led like light (not even a backlight) with a yellowish glow emitted from the left of the lcd panel. Even the casio product webpage shows the watch as having the same glow. Bad.
That was my biggest dissapointment with this product. Otherwise it does everything its supposed to pretty well and should last me for a long while.

Casio Men's AQ47-7E Classic Alarm Ana-Digi Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQ47-7E Classic Alarm Ana-Digi Sport WatchI bought this watch and also Casio's MQ247B analog watch. Both have stickers on manual booklets saying they have mercury (element Hg, does not say how much) in them! This may be just fine for many people but I try to avoid encouraging use of heavy metals in watch design. Specific to this AQ47-7E dual watch, the screen is made of soft material (acrylic?) and is raised so it will get scratched very easily. The construction of the watch is ergonomic, clean and light. The rectangular watch body is a bit narrower on the sides than the round-faced kinds, making its sides streamlined and not get in the way of wrist bending.

Casio Men's DBC150-1 Databank Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's DBC150-1 Databank Digital WatchI've had a similar Casio model for years (Databank 150), and after it finally broke down, I purchased this one. It is solid as a rock.
PROS
The features are un-rivaled by any other watch: I do standard calculations anywhere with the calculator function, and never have to flip through the phonebook while I'm looking for the numbers of various business contacts. On top of this, I'm never late for anything anymore, because of the brilliant schedule function. Not to mention this watch has all the normal features of a standard digital watch.
**BIG BONUS: The "light" button, which also puts the alarm to sleep, is HUGE and EXTREMELY easy to press! It makes it easy to light the watch up and stop the alarm, especially in dark conditions.**
CONS
Well, there are a few problems. The buttons are a little to small. I occasionally make a mistake when entering in a phone number or a calculation on the calculator.
OVERVIEW
PROS
-Calculator
-Telephone Address Book
-Scheduler
-Memo/Note Pad
-BIG Light Button
-All the other standard digital watch functions (stopwatch, alarm, etc...)
-Easy to use
-Not too big, fits nicely on wrist
CONS
-Buttons slightly too small - still can enter in data flawlessly 85% of the time.

Casio Men's F28W-1 Classic Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's F28W-1 Classic Digital WatchThe one reservation is that the plastic and the strap fall apart after a while. So splendid is the watch, however, that I'm forever tempted to preserve the thing somehow, perhaps by encapsulation or making a nice metal bezel to hold a good strap onto it.My experience is that one watch is good for two strap replacements, though it's a bit of an exercise to get the pins out.

The major advantages: It shows the day of the week, the date, the hours, minutes, and seconds. And that is _all_ it shows. No alarms to surprise you, and no stopwatches. There is no joy like that of finding out that instead of local time, the '1:33' you see displayed on your watch's dial means that you accidentally started the stopwatch an hour and 33 minutes before.

The only 'accessory' is that you can set the thing to read on 24-hour time, which is necessary in some applications. The watch is very light, very cheap, very accurate, and I believe the battery lasts approximately forever. There's no back-light, but that's why the battery lasts a long time.

The only other difficulty is availability: Wal-mart--and, obviously, Amazon.com--sell 'em, but at about ten bucks each, they're not high-profit items.

Another bit of folklore.Someone--not me--has or had non-commercial website devoted to this watch.

Casio Men's GS1100-2A G-Shock GIEZ Series Multi-Band Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's GS1100-2A G-Shock GIEZ Series Multi-Band Solar Atomic WatchI've only had this watch for a short while, but thought I'd share my first impressions of it.I chose the Casio GS1100-2A (Giez) for a few reasons.First, I'm not a big fan of digital watch displays ... I prefer the traditional analog style with hour, minute and second hands. Secondly, as an owner of a rather expensive dress watch that must be sent back to the factory every few years for battery replacement, I wanted an everyday watch that wouldn't require a lot of maintenance. Finally, although I really didn't need a chronograph, I travel a lot and wanted a watch that could handle multiple time zones. Ultimately, the Giez offered more of the features I was looking for than the others watches I looked at.

The Giez is part of Casio's G-Shock line, meaning that it's designed to withstand harsher conditions and isn't as sensitive to being hit or dropped. The casing both looks and feels solid, nothing cheap about this watch.I chose the GS1100-2A because of it's blue face. For me, the blue face appeared to be slightly easier to read than the black face of the GS1100-1A (which otherwise is the same watch).I also just liked the color.

The display itself consists of a traditional watch dial with three smaller chronograph-style dials within. The hour and minute hand work as you would expect, but what at first appears to be the second hand is in fact not the second hand at all.Seconds are displayed by the small inner dial at the bottom center. The large hand that looks like a second hand is really used as an indicator to assist in selecting city time zones, as well as some other functions. In the stopwatch mode, this same hand serves to measure 1/20th second increments.

The two other inner dials on the main indicate the day of the week (mo,tu,we,etc...)and the hour of the day (using a 24-hour scale.) There's also a small window to display the current date.

The Giez comes with a resin watch band.I would have preferred a metal band (simply for style), but the resin band is suitable for harsher environments, and so it's standard on G-Shock watches.

Another feature of the GS1100-2A is that it uses Casio's "Tough Solar" technology to keep the battery charged.Unlike non-solar watches, the battery in the Giez is rechargable, and depends upon the solar receptor (on the face of the watch) to keep it charged.Without light, the battery will last only about 5 months, as compared to the 2, 5 and 10-year lifespans of non-solar watch batteries. The manual contains a guide as to how much light the watch should get each day in order to keep going. If you're outside in direct sunlight (50,000 lux), you'll only need to expose your watch for about 8 minutes and if you're inside, with your watch exposed to direct sunlight through a window, you must keep it exposed for about 30 minutes per day.On the other hand, if you're inside (and not near a window on a sunny day), only exposed to typical fluorescent lighting, you'll need to keep the watch exposed to light for about 8 hours. Assuming you're wearing your watch, that means you'll have to wear it outside of your sleeve so that it can charge properly. Casio recommends that when you're not wearing the watch, place it somewhere that will be exposed to bright light. This may not be convenient for everybody.

In terms of accuracy, like many quartz watches, the Giez maintains an accuracy of +/- 20 seconds per month. However, it has one additional feature to help that along. The GS1100-2A is also part of Casio's Wave Ceptor "Atomic" line of watches. Each night (the exact time depends upon your home region) the Giez will attempt to receive the UTC time signal generated by the NIST Atomic Clock in Colorado and synchronize its time. Doing this nightly will keep your watch accurate to less than a second of the atomic clock's time. It also makes sure your weekday and date settings are correct. If you have the automatic Daylight Savings Time feature activated, the watch will even adjust itself forward and/or back one hour at the proper times of the year.

The actual time synchronization signal is broadcast by a 50,0000 watt transmitter in Fort Collins, Colorado, which (depending upon atmospheric conditions) can be received up to 2000 miles away. This covers the mainland US, but folks in Hawaii and Alaska may not be able to get the signal. Even then, geographic conditions (such as mountains) and other obstacles (such as buildings and tall trees) can also inhibit reception. So, there's no guarantee that your watch will be able to synchronize automatically.I live in New Hampshire and was worried about that after hearing that the Northeast is particularly difficult in terms of time signal reception. The first day I got the watch, I tried a manual synchronization from inside my home office on the first floor.Even though I put the watch near a window as instructed in the manual, the synchronization failed. Before I went to bed however, I placed the watch on an upstairs window sill that faces west.(The manual recommends placing the watch by a window.) During the night, the watch will make up to 6 attempts to receive the UTC signal and synchronize itself. Supposedly, the signal is best received in the early morning hours. The next day I woke up and immediately went over to the window to check on the watch. The Giez provides a way to let you know if the last synchronization attempt was successful and sure enough, it had worked fine. Of course, what that means is that if I want to keep the watch synchronized with the Atomic clock, I'll have to make sure to take it off and put it on the window sill each night. That's not going to be a big deal for me, but it may be to some. The transmitter in Colorado is not the only one in the world, there are also transmitters in Japan, the U.K. and Germany. Most Casio Wave Ceptor watches will recieve the US and Japan signals (helpful for those traveling to Japan.)However, the GS1100-2A also recieves the the U.K. and Germany signals, which most of the other Wave Ceptor watches do not. Unless you'll be travelling to those areas of the world, that extra functionality won't be useful to you. (I travel a lot, so that was a factor for me.)

As far as operating the watch is concerned, it's obvious that the more features a watch has, the more buttons (and button sequences) you'll need to learn. The GS1100-2A has a stopwatch and an alarm. It also can be used as a world time watch, with settings for 29 time zones. There are 4 buttons on the watch (one protruding from each quadrant of the case).Depending upon the function you want, you must press one or more of those buttons in specific sequences, and/or hold them in for specific lengths of time. Some won't want to be bothered to memorize those sequences while others won't mind ... but it's something to be aware of.So far I've learned only a few of the basic sequences, but I'm still referencing the manual for most operations. It took me a bit of time to initially set up the watch because of that. The manual is complete, but a bit confusing in some sections. It could have been written better.

Interestingly, when the watch is adjusting it's time, or transitioning from one world time zone to another, or changing from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time, motors inside the watch actually rotate the hands automatically, so there's no need for you to manually turn a knob.

All in all, I like this watch. It's quite solid and appears to be well built.I can tell it's going to last awhile. It has a good feature set, and it's a bit more stylish than many "geeky" hi-tech watches. Like many hi-tech watches, there's a bit of a learning curve in terms of it's operation; And as I stated earlier, in order to take advantage of the Solar and Atomic Synchronization features, you may have to alter your daily habits in order to accommodate the need for light, and to alsoposition the watch near a window at night in order for it to receive the time signal. If the the solar feature isn't of interest to you and you don't want to have to think about keeping it charged, I'd definitely look at a different watch. Most of the non-solar watches offer much better battery life. Also, if you're living in a city (in between tall buildings) or if you are nestled in between high mountains where signals may not get through, you might not want to pay the extra bucks for the atomic time feature. I lucked out and can get the signal, but others may not be that lucky.

The retail price of this watch is $300.00.I paid about $200.00, but I've seen it advertised on-line for a few dollars less (although shipping costs may offset that.)

I can wear it with anything.
Out of the box it was set for EST with the correct day. It has instructions so you can change the time based on your time zone and you can also select whether or not it is Daylight Savings Time (DST.) The DST is a great function because you won't have to reset your watch during DST, just press a button and the watch will compensate +/- 1 hour.
There is also the day counter function. This function allows you set a day in the future, for me, since I am currently deployed, would be the day I return from Iraq. You could also use it to set the days until your vacation or a special occasion. It will count down the days you have left until that date. You can set up to 5 special dates.
There is also a World Clock. There are 29 time zones and you can pick the one that best suits your needs. For example, my children are on EST while I'm in Iraq, so I just set the World Clock to NYC Time Zone (East Coast) and I know exactly what time it is when I call there. While it doesn't take much to figure out the time difference, the watch having the exact time is more convenient. There is also an alarm, stopwatch, and a countdown timer that can be set for 1 minute up to 24 hours. There is also the option of a mute button for the operational functions. For example, generally when you push the 'mode' button on a watch to get from the time to say the stopwatch, the watch beeps; you can put that on mute. You will no longer hear a beep when you're scrolling through modes. The alarm, hourly beep, and countdown timer all still function normally.
The last thing is a data bank. You can store up to 25 records, each with a name and phone number. I'm still not sure what to do with this, seeing as most people have cell phones these days. I guess of you forget your cell phone and you need to write down a number you could just put the name and number in your watch.
As far as construction goes, I obviously haven't had this particular watch that long, but from what I understand G-Shocks are basically indestructible. I also know someone who has the same watch battery since 1996. He hasn't had to replace the battery in 13 years!
I am looking forward to a long life with this watch. The only downfall may be that I have heard the clear band may yellow with prolonged exposure to the sun and water. I would recommend this watch to anyone!

Casio Men's MTG1000-9 G-Shock MT-G Multi-Band Solar Atomic Chronograph Watch Review

Casio Men's MTG1000-9 G-Shock MT-G Multi-Band Solar Atomic Chronograph WatchLove this watch.
Good points:
- Solar and radio sync'ed with time signal, no problem syncing every night, just have to make sure I point it west (I live in San Antonio, TX).When I am where I'm not sure where the transmitter is, I wear it to sleep, and looks like I move around enough that it eventually succeeds syncing. No problem syncing in California, Texas, Poland, Holland.I'm going to Asia in a month, we'll see.
- Switching to a different time zone is easy, if a bit long due to the time zone selecton only going one direction - going from west to east is easy, east to west requires sweeping the whole globe, and if you don't push the button fast enough you have to wait until the needle sweeps. They should have programmed another button to sweep in reverse
- As a "set and forget", this is genius.Keeps the time on the nose (with sync every night, unbeatable precision), never have to wind, no battery to change (had several waterproof watches with batteries, waterproofing dies at 2nd battery change), autmatically changes date regardless of month, changes to Daylight saving.
- Tried stopwatch and down counter, they work but I don't use them much.
- Not the least, looks cool with big dial and 3 sub-dials, with metal bracelet with composite inserts. Clasp is easy to put in, and secure with the 2 buttons you need to grasp to unhook.Much better than pure friction clasp, had a few of those and they keep on unhooking by themselves.
Bad:
- Casio lost a good opportunity, would have preferred the 24 hours needle to show home time while I'm traveling - checked with customer service, not possible.
- The seconds hand is actually in the small, lower dial, the big seconds hand is actually a function indicator, takes a while to get used to it.
- Some times I accidently hit a button and put it into stopwatch mode, takes a few seconds to realize it when I consult the time, another "get used to it" thing.

Overall, the best watch I ever had.

Casio Men's Watch CA506-1 Review

Casio Men's Watch CA506-1This watch is really helpful when shopping or just when you need to calculate something quick. It's handy to have in match class. The buttons stick out so it's really easy to use. Some newer casio watches don't have the buttons sticking out and makes them harder to use. The watch is waterproof and I wear it in the shower to see if I'm taking too long so I'm not late for work. The dual time option is great if you are traveling. The battery also lasts a long time, I've had the same watch before and it lasted over 3 years. The stopwatch is really nice for exercising and the alarm is loud too. Overall a great casio watch.

Casio Men's AQW100-1AV Forester Active Dial Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQW100-1AV Forester Active Dial Sport WatchWell, I do body boarding and I wanted a water resistant watch that was not terribly expensive. This is a cost effective timepiece given the functions and design.

The durability of the watch for 200m is good for someone with an active lifestyle in the water. This is a simple watch that has a timer, stopwatch, 3 alarms, and illuminated hands for when you are reading the time in the dark. The light allows for viewing in total darkness but the script can be small for some folks. The moon data is nice to have, but not something that I depend upon.

The band is comfortable and the watch is solid in construction.I do find reading the digital time and date difficult with the hands in the way but it is not a deal breaker. The protective crystal is scratch resistant but not protected by the bezel.

It is a solid choice for a person with an active lifestyle.

Casio Men's DW5600MS-1CR G-Force Military Concept Black Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's DW5600MS-1CR G-Force Military Concept Black Digital WatchG-Shock watches speak for themselves. My last G-shock unfortunately had a broken strap and since it was purchased in Japan, good luck with finding parts for it.I would agree with another reviewer that the "adjust" button is harder to press, but that's probably because Casio doesn't want you to accidentally hit that button. All the other 3 buttons protrude a bit more, and you don't have to use your nails to push down. The back lit is blue, and it's easy to read.Overall you can't complain about the build quality of the watch. The strap feels extremely comfortable, and the watch doesn't feel bulky at all.I have a pretty thin wrist and it fits me pretty well.
