Casio General Men's Watches Digital W-753-3AVDF - WW Review

Casio General Men's Watches Digital W-753-3AVDF - WWI decided I wanted a decent-sized yachting watch with the tide shown on it as I thought it would be handy for sailing. I looked around and discovered there are huge differences in prices for watches and as I couldn't justify spending much, after some study I ended up choosing the Casio Sea Pathfinder. Now I don't know much about brands but I do know that Casio isn't a cool brand but, hey, getting this much watch for less than twenty pounds, I couldn't complain. The Amazon price was significantly cheaper than prices in the various chandlery mail order catalogues (now there's a surprise!). Please note there is a blue strap version (the one I chose) and black strap or silver strap versions which I think are the same watch (at least the same innards) but slightly different visually.

So, what's the watch like? Firstly, I'm a woman (albeit a large one!) and some men's watches look ridiculous. This one is fine, it's got a large face but not enormously so and a curved glass top so it feels smooth. There are four large buttons, two either side, which are easy to press. The main display (usually the time) is easy to see and very clear, the tidal and lunar displays less so, although you get used to reading the watch face.

There are a number of different modes including time, dual time (i.e. two different time zones), moon (how many days into the moon), 5 alarms, stopwatch and countdown timer. Interestingly I've found myself using the countdown timer when cooking (rather than a normal cooking pinger) because it's very easy to set. In fact all of the options on the watch are easy to set - once you've found out your lunitudinal interval. This mystery number helps the watch know the tidal states but the little instruction book that comes with the watch only gives general lunitudinal interval locations, such as 'London'. Armed with a set of tide tables and the watch, I discovered that London is significantly different to Eastbourne (Sovereign Harbour) tidal times. The thing I hadn't realised before buying this watch is that you can dial in the date and time and it will tell you the tide at that point, it doesn't just tell you the tide right now, so I was able to check the calculations up till December this year. Eventually, after some googling, I found a table of lunitudinal intervals along the South Coast of England. It didn't include Eastbourne but did have some other locations and, with a little trial and error, I managed to find the best lunitudinal interval which meant my watch tides agreed mostly with the Tide Table tides. And so far the tidal display seems reasonably accurate - it's nowhere near good enough to use for sailing planning but is a helpful quick check when you're thinking about walking on the beach (will the dog be able to play in the rock pools or will they be covered up?) and for general interest.

Being a digital watch it does have the unfortunate problem that when wearing polarising sunglasses (as I do when sailing) it's hard to make out the LCD display, but this is also true for the log, depth display, radar etc on the boat and isn't the fault of the watchmaker, just something to bear in mind.

Battery life is supposedly 10 years but most people will be bored with the watch by then and have moved onto the next one. The light lights up the face in the dark (what more do you need), the beeps for the alarms are loud enough to wake me, the watch overall seems perfectly adequate and it looks good. I think if I'd paid fifty pound I would have been very happy, for less than twenty it's a complete bargain. Go for it!

Casio Men's AWQ101B-2AVCF Blue Active Dial Multi-Task Gear Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AWQ101B-2AVCF Blue Active Dial Multi-Task Gear Sport WatchI expected more from this product, the thermometer was useless, as your body heat effected its output. The hands were a pain to set, and blocked your view of the date, or other things on the face of the watch, half the time.
I have decided to get Casio's fully digital fishing watch, without the thermometer.

Casio Men's AQW100D-1AV Active Dial Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQW100D-1AV Active Dial Sport WatchI got this on closeout and couldn't resist for the price. It's a typical Casio piece-rugged, accurate, and well put together. There is no compass function--it just has directions printed on the non-rotating bezel. The wave function is difficult to set as you have to track down some odd information about your location.Even when I did that it seemed inaccurate. The moon function works well. The time needs to be set twice, once for the hands and once for the digitial. Some may appreciate that but since the hands only move forward, I found it to be quite a pain when stepping off a plane. It took several minutes of constant button-holding to get the hands to move forward 23 hours.

I like it because the display is clear and the whole face lights up.The metal band is solid and comfortable. It's not too heavy and not too big.I'm a fan, but there's no getting around the fact that it's a budget watch.

Casio Men's PAW1300T-7V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Silver Watch Review

Casio Men's PAW1300T-7V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Silver WatchI have admired the Casio altimeter/barometer/compass pathfinders for several years. But I never cared for the huge size.

I wanted their functions in a smaller, lighter watch. When Casio introduced the PAW1300T-7V, I decided I would try it as a replacement for my aging Luminox Navy Seal watch. I needed a watch that was fairly light and easily readable in the dark. The Luminox had fit that bill perfectly with the Tritum capsules on the hands at at the hour marks. But over time those capsules loose their luminosity. Also batteries have to be replaced. The prospect of a solar powered, rechargable watch that automatically corrected itself with the Atomic Clock signal was an added benefit.

I fly for an EMS helicopter service for a living.Half of my shifts are night shifts. This watch works very well for quick time checks with its auto-illumination feature.I have found if I calibrate the altimeter and barometer with local conditions that the altimeter function is very accurate, usually within 20-40 feet of the calibrated altimeters in my helicopter.I frequently check the watch against the altimeters when we are flying.Dual time zones means I can leave the secondary time zone on UTC for filing filght plans. The temperature function is not of any real value to me as it is greatly affected by body proximity. But it is accurate if the watch is removed from the body for about 30 minutes. The alarms work well but the alarm tones are too soft for my ears after flying turbine engined aircraft for almost 40 years.

So, a quick recap: Automatic self-correcting time snychronization, Solar powered/recharged, Excellent automatic self-illumiation, Accurate altimeter and compass functions when calibrated for local conditions. It smaller than previous PAW's and lighter, especially in the Titanium version.I was just thinking the other day that I have been using Casio watches for the last 30 years. (I just put a battery in one of the oldest and it still works great!) I have always liked their layout and user interface. This newest Pathfinder of mine is no exception. It is easy to use, easy to set.If you like Casios, for the money, it is hard to beat this watch, especially on Amazon!

Casio Men's AQF100WD-9BV Forester Sports Thermometer Watch Review

Casio Men's AQF100WD-9BV Forester Sports Thermometer WatchRecieved as stated. The watch is super, when going thru the digital features, i.e; temp, alarm, world time and other features, the analog dials reflected the current time always, this is the greatest feature I like. The watch, band and all of the features under the glass has the look. The watch reflects it is resistance to 100 meters, will find out this summer, but it worked great while out in the rain. Setup features were easy for me once you get the hang of it, it took a few trys to set up the world time, and when Daylight Savings time kicked in, it worked, including changing from 2006 to 2007.Again - Hats off to Casio, another great time piece.
