Casio Men's AWG101-1A G-Shock Multi-Band Solar Atomic Analog Watch Review

Casio Men's AWG101-1A G-Shock Multi-Band Solar Atomic Analog WatchI've owned a Rolex Submariner for 11 years, but needed a second watch that was more durable, less likely to be stolen, and kept better time with more time keeping functionality.I also own several Seikos, but these are all sitting in a drawer with dead batteries as I do not wear these often.I liked the idea of a solar powered watch with no winding and no batteries to replace.I also liked the idea of atomic timesetting as I've owned a couple of self-setting atomic clocks that have worked well for me.After researching various brands, I decided on Casio. After researching the various models here on Amazon and on the Casio site, I decided on the Casio Men's G-Shock Waveceptor Multi-Band Atomic Solar Watch #AWG101-1A.Here is my review of the watch.

Construction:This is my first Casio, so it is my first G-Shock series watch as well. The construction is rugged.I'm well aware of the benefits of the sapphire crystal on my Rolex having owned it for 11 years without a break or scratch. This watch has a "mineral" crystal that is tougher than glass and it looks like it will resist scratches as well. The crystal is recessed in the watch face, protected by a ring of rubber (resin) and steel. The watch case, including its buttons, is further protected by rubber. The watch band is also made of rubber and seems durable. My only complaint about the construction is that the watch will not lay day flat, such as next to a computer for easy reading while working.Note that this watch is waterproof, but is not suitable for scuba diving at depth.

Usability: All of this protection means the watch face is relatively small as compared to the total watch case size. This along with the overall "busy-ness" of the watch face makes the analog time not the easiest to read. The small digital readouts are impossible to read at night and difficult to read indoors. This watch IS NOT backlit. It has an LED light that lights up the case allowing you to read the analog time at night. Also, the digital readouts are obscured at times by the watch hands. The buttons are large and easy to press.A half hour with the manual will allow you to work the timekeeping, stopwatch, world time, and countdown timer functionality. While not intuitive at first, it is not difficult to learn.

Solar Power: The watch has a rechargeable battery that is charged by a solar cell on the face of the watch that is not visible. It can be charged quickly with direct sunlight or slowly by ambient room light.I read someplace that a charge will last the watch 7 months, assuming the light and other functions are not accessed. This would be great if it needs to be stored for a while when not being worn. The rechargeable battery can only be replaced by a Seiko dealer, the expense of which is not known by me.The real test will be to see if the rechargeable battery can far outlast a regular watch battery.Perhaps I'll update this review in 10 years.

Atomic Timekeeping:The watch attempts to update itself several times during the night or can be updated manually from one of 5 radio sources (hence "Multi-Band") across the world. If you're in the continental U.S. this radio source is located in Colorado and has an effective range of 2000 miles. The other radio sources would only be needed if you were traveling far from home, say Europe or Asia. The watch needs to be placed where it can receive a strong signal at night in order for it to be updated with the correct time. This can be problematic as it has difficulty receiving a signal from within buildings, automobiles, etc. I live in Atlanta in a high-rise, so updating the time proved to be somewhat of a challenge.

The watch can show you the date and time that it was last able to successfully get the time from the radio source. When I first purchased the watch, it had been over 3 months since it received the time, which makes sense assuming the watch had been in inventory storage, transit, etc. and unable to receive a radio signal.A comparison of the watch's time via another atomic source showed that it was running about 15 seconds slow.My numerous attempts to manually update the time were unsuccessful. It was also unable to update itself from the top of my dresser the first two nights.A special insert in the manual listing suggestions told me that I wasn't the only one experiencing problems. Finally, after leaving the watch on my balcony overnight, the watch set itself and was now completely accurate with my other atomic time sources. As long as I can update it once a month or so, this difficulty in getting the time will not be an issue for me.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. While not cheap at $100, I don't worry about this watch like I do my Rolex ($7,000).It's timekeeping is accurate and I do not have any concerns over the durability of the watch.I won't be using the timekeeping functions enough to worry about the small size of the readouts, but this would be a showstopper for me if I wanted a stopwatch for running etc.Perhaps the other color (I have the black face with white-on-black digital readouts) is easier to read.

Casio Men's WV58A-1AV Waveceptor Atomic Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's WV58A-1AV Waveceptor Atomic Digital WatchThis watch has the features, weight/feel that I wanted for work. (HEMS)
The "atomic time" feature coincides exactly with our helicopter's Garmin 530 radios. The backlight lasts long enough after pressing to write down and view times without repeating over and over again. The only reason I gave a 3/5 is the watch arrived without instructions.None.
I do not know if that was a Seller issue (Chelsea) or Manufacturer. (Casio)I have enough gadgetology experience that I could eventually figure it out.I prefer instructions and if I cannot find any on-line, it may take a while.(Syncing the radio signal, changing from Central Time to Pacific, changing the 12 hr format to 24 hr, etc.)Overall, this is exactly what I have been looking for.

Addendum:Go to Casio's website.Enter in the 4 (or 3) digit number from the back of your watch and it has a library of all the relevant instructions manuals in pDF format.Which, come to think of it, is a little easier to read than those manuals they usually put under the display box.But it is an additional hassle if you don't have internet access.

Casio Men's MQ24-1E Analog Watch Review

Casio Men's MQ24-1E Analog WatchI whole heartedly agree with the other reviewer. This watch is great for many reasons. The price is right. Less than $10. Come on, anyone can afford it. It doesn't weigh a thing! I personally don't like heavy watches. This is the opposite of a 10 oz Rolex or other expensive watch. It actually looks nice. Kind of a "classic" design. Gold hands and accents on black. A sweep second hand and a simple adjustable wrist band. A very simple, no-frills watch. It is my casual weekend watch that I wear when I don't need to know what day it is.

It is all plastic. The bezel can be easily scratched. But, it's easy enough to just buy another one and replace it if that happens. I'm on my second one in 10 years and I also have a spare in reserve. Once you've bought more than one battery for this watch, you have already reached the purchase price.

I hope Casio never stops making this basic model. In fact, they should expand the line to include other colors, designs, etc.

Casio Women's Casual Sports watch #LA670WGA1 Review

Casio Women's Casual Sports watch #LA670WGA1I had been looking for a gold digital watch for a number of years when I finally discovered this one - I don't understand why more aren't made - I want a functional watch that is nice enough to wear with a dress or out somewhere, that has basic features and can also be worn everyday - this fit the bill. It has the date, time, and an alarm. The only feature that it could benefit from is having a light. But I love the "timer" feature along the top - so much so that I am buying a second one. If I need to do something for 10 minutes, I always have a quick timer with me - one quick button pushed a few times gives you 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes to an alarm. It's very quick and I find I use that feature often.

Casio Women's LA670WA-1 Daily Alarm Digital Watch Review

Casio Women's LA670WA-1 Daily Alarm Digital WatchThis watch is available under the heading: Casio Women's Digital Watch #LA670WA-1 Ladies' dress watch, under which there more more reviews, and I already added mine there.

To reitereate, this is a very smart & sweet looking watch, and also is all metal and digital, which are both rare at this size. However, the negative aspects are: no light, no date, and the clasp comes apart very easily. The description gives the erroneous impression the strap is the expansion type, but in fact it is a metal strap with a clasp that can slide up & down one arm, to a length that fits you.

I can see why one of the previous reviewers lost her watch: it is very easy not to snap the clasp closed properly. It came apart on me more than once and, the watch being so light, it is quite easy not to notice it has gone!

I like the watch but am very disappointed with the strap. I did consider getting a genuine expansion one which was what I had been looking for, but this turned out to cost more the the watch itself! If, like me, you are looking for a watch with an expansion type strap, Timex does them much better but unfortunately, and disappointingly, does not do them in digital form....

Casio Men's WVA430J-1 Waveceptor Solar Atomic Ana-Digi Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's WVA430J-1 Waveceptor Solar Atomic Ana-Digi Sport WatchI'm normally not one to write product reviews, but I cannot say enough good things about this watch. In the past, I was a watch collector and rotated among wearing several watches depending upon my activity (work, sports, etc.) and mood (dress, casual, quirky).Since I purchased this watch several years ago on Amazon, I've pretty much abandoned my other watches and wear this one exclusively. It's comfortable, easy-to-read, and looks great for both business and casual wear. It's also the lowest maintenance watch I've ever owned.Because it's solar-powered, I've never had to mess with replacing the battery. And with its atomic clock capability, I've never had to mess with adjusting the time, especially when Daylight Savings Time rolls around. When my wife and I spent two weeks in England last fall, I kept the analog set to our "home" time and used the digital inset for UK time (it is easy to toggle between different time zones in digital mode). Finally, even after wearing it daily for several years, it still looks almost new.I thought I'd be turned off by the plastic band, but it has also turned out to be the most durable watchband I've ever owned.I sure don't miss having to replace batteries and watchbands! If I had to list any cons about this watch, it can be a little tricky to set, but that's mostly because I never have to mess with it and then have to dig out the small print instructions.I also don't use any of the advanced functions like the alarm or stopwatch.Otherwise, I've enjoyed this watch so much that I'm tempted to get a spare in case my trusty original ever wears out.

Other timekeeping features include:

Casio Men's GW9200-1 G-Shock Riseman Alti-Therm Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's GW9200-1 G-Shock Riseman Alti-Therm Solar Atomic WatchBy bringing together the toughness of a G-Shock and the core features of a Pathfinder/ProTrek, the Riseman is doubtlessly the best G-Shock on the market.

The Riseman is a technological tank: wrapped in a solid, eye-pleasing, and elaborate shield with brushed steel inserts is a high precision measurement instrument that gives very reliable readings of barometric pressure, altitude, temperature as well as reasonably accurate weather patterns. Fascinatingly, the watch gets its energy from the sun (or other minor sources of light, such as a bulb) and is the first watch in the world to synchronize time via radio waves from 6 different atomic clocks around the world (depending on your location). Other handy features: 24+ world times, 24hr stopwatch, 24hr countdown and 5 alarms.

The use of screen space in the main timekeeping mode is exceptional as it includes, besides the time, day & date, a 2-hourly reading of atmospheric pressure within the "red eye". This gives you an immediate idea of where the weather is going and adds a totally new spin on owning a watch that measures atmospheric pressure. The time is also displayed in all modes (except the altim.)

I found the Riseman extremely comfortable to wear throughout the day even in hot/humid weather thanks to the design of the band and despite its important size it is rarely invasive. The overall feel of the watch in your hands, and on your wrist, conveys the high quality of the materials used to achieve toughness as well as its unique look.

With its Gotham City inspired design, its cutting-edge features and its "battle proven" armor, the G-Shock GW9200 Riseman is definitely destined to become a milestone and a classic Master of G.

Casio Men's WVM120J-1 Solar Atomic Resin Strap Watch Review

Casio Men's WVM120J-1 Solar Atomic Resin Strap WatchSome time ago I have sworn that I will only use solar-powered watches that synchronize time with atomic clocks. Initially only quite expensive and 'stylish' models were available, but wearing a timepiece worth several hundred bucks while doing work around the house makes you constantly worried that you scratch precious thing.
This watch is under $100 and has all the benefits of its more expensive 'brothers':
- Solar powered quite efficiently - with normal daily exposure to light I'm always at the 'max charge' level (of course living in sunny Nevada helps here).
- Time synchronization with the 5 radio transmitters all over the world (USA, England, Germany, Japan*2). I frequently travel to visit family in Europe, so USA and England/Germany transmitter sync is important to me. Many watches in the US only sync with USA transmitter or USA and Japan; the latest models just started supporting new China transmitters; this one is the perfect balance for me.
- Time signal reception is excellent in Nevada, bot inside the buildings and outside. From my previous experiences it should mean good reception throughout the West Coast and (maybe!) some problems inside solid-construction buildings in New England and Florida.
- Unlike some cheap models of watches and clocks, this one reads Daylight Savings Time data straight from the radio signal, so it 'springs ahead' and 'falls back' at the correct dates. Some older clocks have hard-coded DST transition dates and are confused after the recent DST changes in the USA.
- I love 'Auto EL' feature: the watch turns on Electro-Luminescent backlight for two seconds when it is dark and the wearer positions hand appropriately. Perfect for the movies, night flights and similar situations.
- I usually prefer metal bands, but resin band in this model is surprisingly good quality and wears OK.
- Button operation seems to be reliable so far.
- The glass is scratch resistant and placed recessed in the metal panel - so far I managed to keep it clear, which is unusual for me.

Amazon had the best price for this item, better than Fry's and Casio website. The watch arrived on time and in good shape.

Casio Women's LA11WB-1 Daily Alarm Digital Watch Review

Casio Women's LA11WB-1 Daily Alarm Digital WatchI love this watch.I've been re-buying it since the 80's.I typically trash watches within a year or so but I can make these last for a good 5 years or more even with hard use.Considering that I started out paying about 10 bucks for it, that's pretty impressive.Every one has survived my sweaty exercise sessions, sloppy dishwashing and slamming my wrist against things. The band can be torn but somehow I've only managed to do that on one of the four or so I've bought. And the band fits my little skinny wrist that NO jewelry fits, without having to alter it in any way.I use every feature on this watch, especially the countdown timer, which is a great tool for those of us who are easily distracted. If I have to remember to do something in a few minutes (from 5 to 30 minutes), whether it's call someone back, check the oven, turn off the garden hose, switch the laundry, or whatever, I can utilize the countdown timer as a reminder tool that travels with me unlike a kitchen timer or a sticky note. The watch is small and flat, and although it has a very vinyl utilitarian look, I choose it most of the time over my prettier dress watches because it's far more functional. This is not jewelry by any means but it's a great cost-effective little tool, if that's what you're into (and I am).

Casio Men's WVQ400J-1 Waveceptor Atomic Dual-Time Watch Review

Casio Men's WVQ400J-1 Waveceptor Atomic Dual-Time WatchI was disgusted with TAG Heuer for no longer making repair parts for my favorite old watch. I was even willing to spend the ridiculous money they asked for replacing the battery and gaskets... about $100 every two years. I'll never get another TAG since they don't support their customers.

So... I looked all over, did lots of research, and found this watch had everything I was after. I love the solar power (no battery to replace) and the atomic clock synchronization (no more monthly date-changes or DST adjustments).

I found it quite easy to set up. Yes, you MUST read the manual but it's logical and easy to follow. Don't go pushing buttons without knowing for certain what you're doing and you should be okay. I especially like the setting that automatically turns on the dial lamp when it's dark and I tilt my wrist... it's totally cool. So in addition to solar power and atomic reception, it's got a tilt-angle sensor. Amazing.

The watch looks great... Amazon is selling it at a really good price: a bit over half what Casio lists it for.

My only wish is that they offered the watch with a stainless link band. I'm concerned that the weakest aspect of this is the rubber band. It's comfortable and looks fine, but I worry it'll break where I bend it back to insert the tab every time I put it on. And it's not a standard attachment, so there may be no repair option.

ADDITIONAL COMMENT AFTER LIVING WITH IT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS:
I still like this watch, but wanted to share one problem that's popped up. The large buttons on the bezel are TOO EASY TO PUSH INADVERTENTLY. Meaning, simply by bending my hand back, I can end up changing the time zone or setting off a timer. As I type this, the date has been replaced by the time zone indicator. I now must find the manual (at home in my bedside table) to resume normal timekeeping functions. This happens a LOT! I can only hope Casio designers check these listings and will create a future version with a twist-stem that locks to replace these big, fat buttons.

Otherwise, I love the watch. At such a great price, I can't justify downgrading from 5 to 4 stars.

Casio General Men's Watches Edifice Chronograph EF-503D-1AVDF - WW Review

Casio General Men's Watches Edifice Chronograph EF-503D-1AVDF - WWI purchased this watch for myself about 2 months ago. I challenge anyone to find a better looking watch in this price range. It looks like a million bucks! I love the red hands, the chrome rings around the chronograph dials, the illumination tick marks, and how comfortable it is to wear. It's heavier than it looks, but not at all clumsy or bulky. It's a great watch to wear everyday, or for when you need to dress up.
I had actually chipped the crystal about 1 month after getting it. I sent it to Casio, and they repaired it under warranty. I also have a more expensive Seiko chronograph watch similar in style, and I think this Casio is a better looking watch.
I love my EF503D. I didn't think it was possible to get such a great looking watch for this kind of money. So why not 5 stars? I do feel like the crystal chipped and scratched too easily, but for this price, maybe it's what I should expect.

Casio Men's GW1500A-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's GW1500A-1AV G-Shock Ana-Digi Solar Atomic WatchThe atomic function makes this about as accurate as a watch can be.The other functions work okay.Solar energy is nice - never need to worry about a battery.World time is a waste. There are better stop watch functions out there if that is important to you - it is not to me.Coolest feature may be that it automatically illuminates at night when you turn your wrist to look at the time.

This is a HUGE watch.Sits high on the wrist - many long sleeve shirts will not button with this watch on.

Casio Men's GS1100-1A G-Shock GIEZ Series Multi-Band Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's GS1100-1A G-Shock GIEZ Series Multi-Band Solar Atomic Watch--- Warning:Long, opinionatedreview ahead ---

I could go on and on about how many watches I own (40+), I could list off the caliber of watches I have (Jaeger-LeCoultre, two Rolexes, Zeneth, Franck Muller)... but what I do want to go on about is my love of this Giez watch.

I have many watches (see above) and many of them are the various models of Casios which have been released over the years; from the first pathfinder watch to the current Riseman. The Giez GS1100 is by far one of my favorites.Reason - Form, Function and a wondrous movement.

Form - Simple and clean at first glance, then as you look closer the detail comes to light.

Function - it does what it should do.It is one of the most accurate timepieces on the planet. On the most basic of levels, it tells time, has a stop watch, one daily alarm, day and date. For those who need it;it has world time mode and it (the watch) supports the National Institute of Standards and Technology reception standards for the US as well as those for Japan, The UK and Europe.

Here is a little, how shall we say... commentary:

The watch is fluid, it has a gear driven movement (the same as the $900 Oceanus line by Casio). It should be looked upon not as a digital watch but as a precision time keeping instrument. The few reviewers whom complained about the movment taking forever; stop playing with your watch, it's not a toy.Set it and know that it works. As an aside, if you are a global jet setter and you need to change the world time city, press the mode button and then immediatly hit the reset/advance button; it will advance the second hand/city indicator with out having to wait for the current setting to queue up.

The other complaint about reception, I have no comment other than "Please know that it is a low power radio wave which the watch is receiving. If you live in a basement or a structure which is not "wave friendly", please know that when your watch does pickup the signal that it is not like it is going to lose that much in accuracy before it's next acquisition (unlike my Texas Timex.. Rolex Air King, which can and does).

My only complaints about the watch are very minor: I wish it had an hourly chime and I also wish the alarm was louder.

In conclusion - If you like Casio watches and you have a modocum of patience; you will not be dissapointed with your purchase.

Casio Men's PAW1500T-7V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Ultimate Watch Review

Casio Men's PAW1500T-7V Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Ultimate WatchI've owned a lot of great watches over my 30 years of adulthood -- from inexpensive Timexes to my beloved Movado -- but THIS ONE is SOMETHING SPECIAL! Why "special"? Because, simply, it does everything it is advertised to do; and it does well, and with a touch of class!

Casio obviously put a lot of thought into the design of this watch and its features. The digital compass is the snappiest and most accurate I have found in a watch. The altimeter is a gem....accurate to within 5 meters (or about 20 feet). The barometer is quite sensitive and the trend graph on the watch face has proven to be very useful. The thermometer works great and, if kept a short distance from the warming effects of the skin, is very accurate and sensitive. The atomic clock update works like a charm here in Virginia.....takes about 3 minutes for an accurate "fix" each night. The motion sensor that turns on the face light in dark areas when you tilt the watch towards your face is terrific....especially in a dark car when you can't take your hands off the wheel to check the time....but the watch face lights up as you tilt your arm towards your face. Now how cool is that????!!!!

A couple of lessons learned since I brought this gem home: READ the owner's manual! Yes, it's complex and will take a couple of hours to go through carefully....but it will save you endless frustration and will tailor this watch exactly to your own needs and desires. It's a VERY complex watch.....but once you get it set up (ie, power-use modes; metric or English measurements; tides set to your beach, etc....), it becomes an incredibly useful tool that you will be consulting frequently throught each day and night.

A second lesson learned: follow the instructions and CAREFULLY calibrate your "reference altitude" and the barometer. The best instructions for doing this, in tandem, and taking into account ambient temperature, is critical and is well-laid out towards the END of the instruction manual....in the "Reference" section. Accurate calibration of the altimeter and the barometer are dependent on the ambient temperature....so read those instructions....they are well-written and take you step-by-step through the short process.

This watch may look big.....but it's not as big as some other watches I have owned. It's thinner than the G-Shocks.....and sits on my very lean wrist quite nicely. The watch is designed to be worn OUTSIDE long-sleeve clothing to allow proper charging of the solar battery....and be most useful as a reference instrument! When wearing short-sleeve shirts or T-s, I put a 1" sports wristband on my wrist first....then put the watch over it. Works like a champ.....and tends to keep the thermometer, barometer, altimeter a whole lot more accurate with the slight seperation from body temperature. (I use the Under Armour 1" Performance Wristbands under the watch.....and they disappear beneath the watch...but allow the watch to sit very confortably and securely on your wrist....yet not add any significant "bulk." You can find them here at Amazon (good price!) and in sporting goods stores.)

Bottom line: if you enjoy cutting-edge technical gadgets that work REAL WELL.....AND serve a very useful purpose.....AND enjoy top-notch quality......AND great support from the folks at Casio (check out their website!).....this is the watch for you. It's gem!

Product Description:
Perfect for rugged adventurers and weekend warriors, the solar-powered Casio Pathfinder men's sport watch is loaded with a digital compass and altimeter/barometer/thermometer--perfect for both mountain trekking and cave spelunking. It also includes tide and moon graphs and moon age data, and is very precise thanks to its atomic timekeeping features. The durable round watch case (measuring 50.5mm/1.98 inches wide) and bracelet are made of titanium, which is nearly 50 percent lighter than steel, but 30 percent stronger. It's also particularly resistant to salt water corrosion, as well as hypo-allergenic--perfect for those with metal allergies.
The altimeter offers 5-meter measurements from -700 to 10,000 meters, and it can store altitude, month, date and time data, provide tendency and differential graphs, track cumulative ascent/descent, and sound an alarm when you reach a specified altitude. The watch also has a digital compass with 16 points of measurement displayed on the dial face. Other environmental and timekeeping features include:

Barometer with atmospheric pressure tendency/differential graphics
    Thermometer
World Time: 29 times zones (30 cities), city code display, daylight saving on/off
    5 daily alarms
1/100 second stopwatch with 24-hour capacity and elapsed/split time modes and 1st-2nd place times
    Countdown timer with 60-minute range

Casio Men's GW9000A-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic Watch Review

Casio Men's GW9000A-1 G-Shock Mudman Solar Atomic WatchThis is my first review on the Amazon facility so, be kind to me.I have had my GW9000 for about 4 weeks now and I'm very happy with it.The solar and atomic features perform as advertised.I love a watch that keeps near perfect time and requires nothing from me except to place it near a window at night.Mine even syncs when I am wearing it.The solar feature works very well alsoAgain, not much for me to do except get it in the sun from time-to-time.

The solar/atomic Mudman is also quite comfortable. The strap is much softer and pliable than that on my old DW6900.Instead of having the stainless steel case back resting directly on the wrist, the Mudman has some little rubber nubs that rest on the wrist. This allows air to pass between the watch back and the wrist making for a cooler more comfortable experience.

The watches timekeeping features are the usual array of date, time, alarms, etc.All in all, a good rugged watch.

Casio Men's MTG900DA-8V G-Shock MT-G Atomic Tough Solar Watch Review

Casio Men's MTG900DA-8V G-Shock MT-G Atomic Tough Solar WatchI surveyed vast field of digital choices before getting the watch a month ago, and I'm well satisfied. Most digital watches (as opposed to analog with hour and minute hands) are ugly, IMO, so my surveying has mainly been frustrating.I found a nice line of digital Casio Edifices, with big digits and glimmering colorful faces, which served for a while, but has apparently been discontinued a year or two ago, and my last one quit working two months ago.

I bought this watch, grimacing at the price, just because it wasn't particularly ugly and had big digits, but it exceeded my meager expectations. The manual was a bit of a slog - it took about 20 minutes to read, but well worth it.

The features are outstanding - about 5 alarms, one of which can be set for snooze alarms, the expected stop watch, easy access to Greenwich Meridian Time, markers for noting times, a backlight, waterproof enough for scuba diving (not that I dive).

The special features include checking with a radio signal daily so the time is always correct (important for catching my buses and winning arguments about what time it really is), solar power (so run-down batteries should never be a problem), and backlighting that turns on when one turns one's wrist (surprisingly convenient).A nice touch is when one cycles back to the time, the watch gives a different unobtrusive beep.

There are other features available on other watches - tape recorders, flash drives, altimeters, compasses, but none that sound remotely useful in the long run.

I had to shorten the well-built wriststrap by 5 or 6 links, a little tricky, but any watch shop could do it in 5 minutes.

If you want a big, full-featured, easy-to-read and operate digital watch, this is the one, and I've surveyed most of them.

Post originally written mid-January, this added 2-25-07:I've found there might be problems with battery life, or maybe it is just the Seattle winter.I've had to leave my watch sometimes under a light when the power get low, and changing the battery can only be done by Casio, according to one watch shop. Also, the price on the watch is coming down quickly to more reasonable levels.I still like it a lot, despite having to juice it up from time to time.

Casio Men's MQ24-7B2 Analog Black Resin Strap Watch Review

Casio Men's MQ24-7B2 Analog Black Resin Strap WatchThis is the perfect watch for you if you are on a budget. I like it, though I'm more into the flash of the Casio MQ241E. The upshot is that this is a watch for the people. There's no flash, no digital, no leather band, nothing but a simple watch. For the price, you honestly cannot beat it. The only way it could get better is if either someone gave you the watch as a gift, or you won it in the "claw of luck" game in the supermarket entryway. That's the ONLY way it gets better than this... A true gem...

Casio Men's GW5600J-1 G-Shock Atomic Tough Solar Watch Review

Casio Men's GW5600J-1 G-Shock Atomic Tough Solar WatchWay back in 1982, I bought one of the first Casio 5000 models. It was incredibly accurate, easy to use, had a countdown timer (which I used a lot) and seemed set to last for ever. In 1988 I crashed my motorcycle, and smashed the crystal on my watch. I threw it in a drawer, bought a new cheap casio (with less functions) and carried on. 3 years later I found the smashed one in the back of the drawer. It was still working and only wrong by 15 seconds! I've had various other watches since then, (really missed the countdown timer), but the Casio G-shocks were all way too thick to suit me. I really fancied the new Solar Powered and Atomic Clock synced Casios, but they were still too thick (and didn't have a countdown timer).
Then I found the GW5600J. Based on the old 5000 series, Atomic, Solar Powered, 5 alarms and a countdown timer, full backlight. And the same style and thickness as my old 5000! Not thin, but not ridiculous either.
I've had it a week now, I love it, I expect it to last the rest of my life (this sucker is tough), and neat, clear, easy to use and accurate!
If you like digital watches (as opposed to analog), this is the one.

Casio Men's AMW320R-7EV Sport Alarm Ana-Digi Dive WatchI have bought this watch for him every 6 years. He has owned three so far. After replacing the battery, it is not as water resistant. Also, the band has broken on two out of the three of the watches.I gave it 4 stars because of the degradable band.No other watch has movable bezel, analog and digital time, with an alarm, for under $100.00.

Casio Men's EF305-1AV Multifunction Analog Watch Review

Casio Men's EF305-1AV Multifunction Analog WatchThis watch is an excellent every day watch for someone who wants an affordable watch that they can wear to work or to the park. With its chronograph styling, dark resin band, and classic sizing (I think it's ~38mm diameter and not too thick, though as I recently lost mine I can't be sure), it definitely will give the impression that you are wearing a much more expensive watch. When I used to wear it, I got compliments on it all the time and cost estimates in the hundreds =D.

However, don't be fooled by the "multifunction watch" title. The sub-dials show day/date/24-hour time, and that's it--no dual time, no stopwatch, it's not a digital watch replacement. The second markings aren't clear or accurate enough for you to really time anything. This was mostly fine for me but I found myself occasionally missing those functions. What I personally found most annoying, however, was the choice of mineral crystal as the watch window material, a poor compromise between acrylic and sapphire glass. Harder than acrylic, but way softer than sapphire, it still scratches fairly easily for a "beater" watch but you don't have the option of easily buffing it out.

Casio Men's AW80V-5BV World Time DataBank 10-Year-Battery Watch Review

Casio Men's AW80V-5BV World Time DataBank 10-Year-Battery WatchI bought this watch as I was looking to replace an old dual analog / digital Casio I had had for over 10 years. The new one looks sharper and has more features, though it is a bit thicker. I really like that the hands glow in the dark, and have found even several hours later I can still read the time in the dark. Instructions were a bit hard to read in the enclosed booklet so I downloaded a 3 page PDF summary from the Casio home page. Quite like that I can see the time and the day / date of week at a glance and then switch and change to see a different time zone that I am currently visiting.

Casio Men's AMW320R-1EV Marine Ana-Digi Dive Watch Review

Casio Men's AMW320R-1EV Marine Ana-Digi Dive WatchThis model has been out for a long time. I like the look of the black more then the white or gold. The reason the watch loses one star is because the band. It looks great, but the rubber will wear out and break in about a year. The replacement band that Casio offers looks close the orginal, but not exactly the same. I lost one of these, and another was stolen. So the fact that I am on my third is a statement to how much I love this watch. I have been wearing it since about 1993.

Casio Men's PAS410B-5V Pathfinder Moon Phase Hunting Timer Watch Review

Casio Men's PAS410B-5V Pathfinder Moon Phase Hunting Timer WatchI bought this watch for one reason: to wake me up in the morning -- but without waking my wife at the same time.I avoid the usual alarms that sound off -- I want a "private" alarm that wakes only me.This vibrating watch does this perfectly. It has at least 4 alarms, and I use 3 to wake me in 10 minute intervals, to be sure I come awake.Once you know the sequence of buttons to push, it's easy to set the alarm and to turn them off (for example, at the weekend, when I sleep later). The construction is good, the backlighting is good, and the strap is very strong and easy to fasten (with Velcro).I don't use this for "hunting," which is the purpose given to this watch -- there are all kinds of other functions avauilable that I don't use.But for my purposes, it is perfect.

Casio Men's AQF100WD-9BV Forester Sports Thermometer Watch Review

Casio Men's AQF100WD-9BV Forester Sports Thermometer WatchRecieved as stated. The watch is super, when going thru the digital features, i.e; temp, alarm, world time and other features, the analog dials reflected the current time always, this is the greatest feature I like. The watch, band and all of the features under the glass has the look. The watch reflects it is resistance to 100 meters, will find out this summer, but it worked great while out in the rain. Setup features were easy for me once you get the hang of it, it took a few trys to set up the world time, and when Daylight Savings time kicked in, it worked, including changing from 2006 to 2007.Again - Hats off to Casio, another great time piece.

Casio Men's Dress watch #A168WG9 Review

Casio Men's Dress watch #A168WG9The style of the watch is great. Not for everybody but perfect for some, like me. It gets some laughs because it is gold (in color) but just a basic casio digital. Its kind of a gag but very stylish to me. You will probably be the only person you know wearing one of these. I particularly like the flat gold colored plastic face, which is a nice subtle contrast with the shiny golden metal. In the 10 or 12 months that I have been wearing it the time has never wavered. The full-screen blue backlight is nice looking and fun, but it stopped working shortly after I got it, then suddenly started working again briefly, and now never works. (still keeping time perfectly though) I bought it here on Amazon, but it is not stocked by Amazon. I think these ones for sale are old stock, with batteries running all the while. ...Also, having not been very careful and washing my hands often at work, the watch has tarnished on many of the edges. I havent looked closely, but it appears irreversable. Still, this is my favorite watch ever, and I'm about to buy another. I thought I would alternate with the casio calculator watch I bought around the same time, but my habit quickly became wearing this gold one all the time.

Casio Men's EFA119BK-1AV Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet Watch Review

Casio Men's EFA119BK-1AV Ana-Digi Edifice Thermometer Bracelet WatchI bought this watch based on several of the reviews listed here.I recommend that you think of this watch as having an analog display with the capability to displaying digital information in the background. In most cases, the background digital information is hard to read unless you hit the illuminate button. This is great for me because it gives the watch a classic analog look while having all of the capabilities of a digital watch when I need it (which is relatively rare - I generally just need to know what time it is).The watch is full of features. I can confirm that the thermometer does not give accurate readings when you are wearing the watch.

As a final note, I could not find any instructions in the manual on how to adjust the band. [...] You need to follow the instructions for the "Leaf Spring Coupled Type," which is very easy once you see how it is supposed to be done.

Casio Men's Reverse PAW1300Y-1VCR LCD Atomic Pathfinder Watch Review

Casio Men's Reverse PAW1300Y-1VCR LCD Atomic Pathfinder WatchI got this watch last week and it's been great so far.I've been using Timex Ironman watches forever and this is slightly bigger but not at all bulky. The barometer has been spot on since I calibrated it.The altimeter worked great on a hill run that I did yesterday.Compass was off by 6 deg, but for a watch that isn't too bad.Thermometer is affected by your body temp so that's probably the most inaccurate sensor. The atomic timekeeping is probably the best thing about the watch.

The negatives are that the alarm isn't that loud and the countdown timer doesn't have a repeat setting, you have to start it over yourself.Overall though great watch, I would buy it again.

Product Description:
Explore. Inform. Conquer. Featuring sporty style and a durable design, the Atomic Pathfinder is much more than a watch, it's an advanced tool for use in the great outdoors. This Amazon Exclusive is equipped with many high-tech sensors to help you observe nature and monitor its continuous changes.
Atomic Timekeeping for Superb Accuracy
The Pathfinder provides micro-second accuracy with multi-band atomic timekeeping that picks up a time calibration signal from anywhere in the world and updates the watch's settings automatically. The Pathfinder features five daily alarms, a countdown timer, and an hourly time signal. The world time function includes 29 time zones (30 cities), a city code display, and a daylight saving on/off function. The automatic calendar is pre-programmed to the year 2099.
Tough Solar Power Eliminates Need for a Battery
You'll never have to worry about changing the battery thanks to the Pathfinder's Tough Solar technology. The battery is automatically charged by light, both indoor and outdoor. The Pathfinder has a solar cell and a special rechargeable, secondary battery that is charged by the electrical power produced by the solar cell. The watch will perform for five months on a single full charge.
Automatic Electro-Luminescent Display for Easy Viewing
The watch's read-outs can be viewed in any light, thanks to the Pathfinder's automatic, EL (electro-luminescent), adjustable backlit digital display with afterglow. Two high-intensity LEDs make the face exceptionally bright, and an auto light means that when you tilt the Pathfinder toward your face, the LEDs automatically light up for nighttime viewing.
Barometer, Altimeter, and Thermometer Readings
With the Pathfinder's barometer, you can predict changing weather patterns as they occur around you. The barometer takes readings every two hours and stores them automatically, graphically displaying the barometric pressure from the past 26 hours. The display ranges from 260 to 1,100 hPa (7.65 to 32.45 inHg) with changeovers from hPa to inHg.
The watch's altimeter can help you gauge the time you'll need to reach the summit. The altimeter checks and displays the altitude every two minutes and stores readings with the temperature every 15 minutes. The graphing function positions you with respect to your target altitude, while an alarm alerts you as you approach your mark. You can record up to 40 sets of data with each record, displaying the month, date, and time. The altimeter's measuring range is from -700 to 10,000 meters (-2,300 to 32,800 feet).
The Pathfinder also features a built-in thermometer that displays and checks the temperature every five minutes. The display can be converted from Celsius to Fahrenheit and measures temperatures from -10 to 60 degrees C (14 to 140 degrees F). So whether you're hiking through the Grand Canyon or snowshoeing in the Rockies, the Pathfinder has you covered.
Sporty, Durable Design
This sports watch is durably designed with a stainless steel case, round black resin bezel, durable mineral crystal, and black resin band with a secure buckle clasp. Buttons flank the bezel and allow easy access to the watch's sensors. Yellow and white concentric stick indexes on the watch bezel indicate barometric pressure, receiving capability, battery power, and more. The black dial changes with each mode and provides easy-to-read recordings, including graphs and tables. This timepiece is powered by Japanese-quartz movement and is water-resistant to 330 feet (100 M).

Casio Men's AW80-1AV Forester Ana-Digi Databank 10-Year Battery Watch Review

Casio Men's AW80-1AV Forester Ana-Digi Databank 10-Year Battery WatchI purchased this watch for work and exercising and after using it for a day I'd say it performs admirably; one certainly cannot complain about the price. Shipping wasn't particularly cheap, but Fed Ex 2 day never is. Stopwatch and timer functions work perfectly, but appear limited to 23:59:59 at max. The daylight savings toggle is handy, and Casio allows a one or two button combination to rapidly set the analog dial in increments of about twenty seconds. The alarm is moderately loud, on par with every other Casio I've used. 30 cities to choose from for world time is a nice bonus if you care.

Some annoyances:

The 'illuminator' light ring is VERY poorly designed and appears to consist of two yellow LEDs embedded in a clear plastic ring under the outside edge of the 'crystal'. When in use, analog time is just visible but the recessed LCD screen is totally unusable. If low-light or nighttime use of the stopwatch or timer is important to you buy something with an electroluminescent face instead of this.

The 30 entry data bank function is probably very handy in a pinch, but entering letters and numbers by using the two watch buttons is incredibly slow. Use your cell phone or a little black book.

The numbers on the outside of the dial are redundant with the ticks on the inside of the dial. One or the other would be preferable for aesthetic reasons.

The battery will probably not last nearly ten years if the analog time is adjusted often or the 'illuminator' is used too often.

I prefer leather bands over resin, but that can always be swapped out at a drug store or mega mart.
