Casio Men's Wave Ceptor watch #WV-58A-9AV Review

Casio Men's Wave Ceptor watch #WV-58A-9AVI bought this watch several months ago and I love it. The manual indicates the battery should be good for about 2 years if you let the watch sync with the atomic clock in Colorado every night (6 minutes), you use the backlight once a day (3 seconds), and the alarm once a day (10 seconds). Since the watch without atomic sync is off at most 10 seconds a month, I turn off auto-sync (avoiding the 6 minutes a day battery drain) and instead manually sync the watch roughly once a month (in other words instead of using 180 minutes I use 6 minutes a month to sync). I also rarely use the backlight or alarm. Based on past Casio watches I've owned, I'm hoping the battery will last about 6 to 10 years. In summary, great watch so far.

Casio General Men's Watches Digital-Analog Combination with 10 Year Battery Life AQ-230A-7BMQ - WW Review

Casio General Men's Watches Digital-Analog Combination with 10 Year Battery Life AQ-230A-7BMQ - WWThis Casio Men's Dress watch #AQ230A7D is one of Casio's first ana-digi watches, and has several functions, including a dual-time feature.I had worn this watch after college as my first business watch ca. 1981.It lasted for years and years, and then went missing.I spotted it recently at a mall kiosk, where they offered it for $60.00.I couldn't help but buy it here for about $19.00!The watch is still simple, elegant, lightweight and slim. Most new ana-digi watches have giant cases that stand high off the wrist. This watch is thinner than my expensive Rado. The watch weighs next to nothing. The band on this watch is also easily adjustable, without anything more than a gentle screwdriver to pop up a clamp on the back side of the bracelet lock. There are no links to remove.I always wished the watch had a backlight, but Casio wasn't building them that way in the 1980s.This watch also comes with a black face.I bought both.

Casio Men's EDB610-1 Databank Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's EDB610-1 Databank Digital WatchI've owned 4 models in this Casio series as far back as ~ 1983.

The best model of the databank series, rating a 4/5, was the mid-1990s release with a mini-bulb for lighting and a silk screened keyboard ... it rated 4/5 because it was a real stainless steel case, the keyboard remained readable for its lifetime, it was easy to clean and it only died because I lost it.Both the strap and watch case lasted over 5 years, the LCD was more readable than the newer releases. It was not perfect though, because the light ate batteries and memory was not FLASH or eeprom memory ... you lost everything during a battery change.

Avoid the resin watch straps, they always break when you least expect it, whether its from Casio or others.Woven nylon with velcro bands can be bought at sports shops and are more durable. The cases for the 2000 models were all resin, the 'steel' ones were simply painted atop resin ... and I've lost 2 watches when the hole in the resin that holds the strap pins breaks, the watch case is useless.Since the earliest model new features are major improvements but prior features were removed, made come backs, or are removed again!I'm writing this detailed review in the hopes Casio will finally get a databank we can all rave about.

Navigation has rarely been a problem. In the older models, a beep in watch mode is different from others, so one can cycle through modes without looking at the screen.Keep the old mode, but GIVE A DISTINCT beep or sound as one enters a new mode as an option.

The background lumination went from a tiny power hungry micro-bulb to an ELD display, much more pleasing and power saving. This is a super plus. Please allow it to say ON as once cycles through MODES.

Make the numbers on the TIME, DAY and DATE readout HUGE and viewed by default. We don't need a year readout, that can be a shift- or scroll button item. The DB37H-1AV screen is ideal, just add a keyboard.

Make a calendar function.

The silk screen or painted numbers on the resin casing always fade with time.Silk screen flat keypads weren't as easy to use as raised keypads, but they kept their labels longer.Make a version with all raised or embossed labels that can be identified by touch.

The screw-on battery case is a dream, batteries can be user serviced. For a watch of this price, its not practical to have it serviced by a watch technician, it can be 25-50% of the cost of the watch!

Keep the password feature for all data and telememo.

The perpetual Schedule mode .. and multiple schedule memos is a key function I use, and the super compact 1 week look ahead schedule view on the LCD is great.I can keep anniversaries, birthday, holidays etc., in the watch and get an entire week's preview of upcoming events. This mode was removed in this watch, hence the 3 Star rating.

While a palmtop serves better than the DB, its easier and more convenient to just carry a watch, and actually serves as a more reliable backup for palmtops with ultra-crucial names, numbers and data, thanks to its low power consumption and non-volatile memory. If there is a way to upload schedules to a DB without loosing the current total amount of memory or the watches other features as other models have, it would be a plus.

Finally, as a watch it keeps excellent time.It really does keep to near +30 sec a month, usually moving slightly faster. This is referenced against US Standard time using the atomic clock time by NIST.gov

Casio Men's W728HD-1AV Illuminator Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's W728HD-1AV Illuminator Sport WatchI was first drawn to this watch by it's looks and the fact that it's a Casio.I've had great luck with Casio's over the years, and the fact that this sported looks I really liked made it a pretty easy selection ... along with the the great price. I've had it for several months now and I can say I'm very happy with it. I'd give it a 5 star rating except for the following design short falls I think warrant some mention:

1)All watches that feature plastic strap pieces (also sometimes referred to as resin) will, in time, develop cracks and splits in them if they are exposed to moisture ... sweat, humidity, water ... and not dried promptly after exposure.Knowing this, I fail to see why a mostly metal watch would be made with any such parts.Since they are bound to fail before the metal parts, this counts for me as a design flaw.

2)While I love the look and design of this watch and the indiglo back light, like some other digital watches, I find the location of the main time numbers to be a bit LOW in the LCD window.Because of the way LCD displays work, there is a difference in depth between the upper surface of the watch crystal and the location of the blacknumbers. This being the case, if the numbers are located low in the LCD window (as they are in this watch), when you tip your wrists to view the dial, if you don't tip it far enough toward yourself, part of the bottom of the numbers can be obstructed from view, which, depending on what time it is, can make it hard to tell the time. This is a common design shortcoming with LCD watches, and this one is no different. It's not a deal breaker, but it can be annoying when you casually go to check the time and find you have to RE-check because your first glance really didn't tell you what time it was clearly enough to be certain.

All in all a great watch ... light weight, attractive, easy to use, great glow effect in the dark, well designed buttons ... I can highly recommend.

Casio Men's Illuminator Sport Watch #W727H-1V Review

Casio Men's Illuminator Sport Watch #W727H-1VThis watch is not flashy. It does its job, and well at that.It keeps time without the glitter of "nice watches." I put it on when I got it, and have since not removed it much. I play soccer in it, sleep in it, shower in it, swim in it, run in it, work in it. It is strikingly weightless on your wrist. Very comfortable as well. It has not disappointed. I have several other watches which I love to look at and keep those for special occasions. Don't expect strangers to complement this piece. Its just not that eye candy. So if functionality and dependability are the priority, you are looking at it.

Casio Men's PAG80T-7V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's PAG80T-7V Pathfinder Altimeter/Barometer/ Digital Compass Solar Digital WatchThis was purchased as a gift for a good friend. We both prefer fairly sizable timepieces, so its size had no bearing on our selection. This was intended, by me, as more of a high end "gimmick gift", rather than to be used to scale Mount Everest. However, we have found numerous and legitimate uses for this type of product. I own a Suunto "Observer", priced about $100 more, and can find no overt differences between the two.As a matter of fact, the edge may go to Casio because of the solar power. Both require that you remove them from your wrist for 10 minutes to get an accurate outdoor temperature reading. This seemed to be one of the common complaints about this device. That same very phenomenon is also clearly stated in a Suunto manual, Suunto considered to be much higher end and definitely more expensive. The Suunto and Casio manual also clearly states that the device is not to be used for flying, parachuting, or other potentially life-threatening situations that require extreme precision. We have found that both the Casio and Suunto are quite impressive, and in an emergency could possibly, repeat possibly, be used for the above activities (flying, would require an unpressurized cabin). It will certainly be an asset for the day hiker.I have seen a Suunto model on the wrist of a climber who had climbed Mount Everest (magazine picture). Is it worth the price?I think that all depends on what you want it for.We use these instruments for outdoor photography. Having an extremely accurate compass on your wrist really helps when estimating the position of the sun, the time, and other ancillary functions complete the package.I have found my Suunto, and my friend his Casio (this model), to be well worth the investment.

Casio Men's WV58DA-1AV Waveceptor Atomic Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's WV58DA-1AV Waveceptor Atomic Sport WatchThis watch has a lot of features like stop watch, alarm, and automatic time sync. They are work well.It also has some negatives. This watch is heavy and big.My bicep has grown an inch in the first week. The wrist band is difficult to re-size.You must remove links unless you have a huge wrist. You will need an awl, or something slender and pointed. The keys that hold these links togeter came out very hard, I scratched the outside of the band with every link removed.I should have laid the band on a soft cloth (my fault). The watch is perfectly accurate, not bad looking, and priced under $40.That's a pretty good value for this type of watch.

Casio Men's F105W-1A Illuminator Digital Watch Review

Casio Men's F105W-1A Illuminator Digital Watch1999 - one of my other watches had a broken glass - so, I was looking for some watch, which I can use for 1 or 2 months before I can buy a fancy one.I was driving on I35 in Austin, drove into a walmart, saw a couple of watches and made a quick decision to buy this casio which then costed me about $14.

7 years have went by, I never bought another watch - I have received a few watches as gift during product promotions etc.But this is the best.It is on my wrist atleast 15 hours a day - office, sports (not swimming), special occasions ...

It is a fully functional, no-nonsense watch - Illuminator, alarm, large format display of time, day and date on the same screen.

My friends cautioned me against using the illuminator and the alarm - saying that it might reduce battery life. But, I have abused this watch more than anybody else could do, set daily alarms, use the illuminator maybe 4-5 times a month ... - I had to replace the watch strap once due to my misuse.

I have no plans of replacing this watch until the battery lasts. After the battery dies, planning to buy a new one - ofcourse it will be a casio (or maybe a citizen ecodrive).

Casio Men's AQ150W-1EV Ana-Digi Chronograph Sport Watch Review

Casio Men's AQ150W-1EV Ana-Digi Chronograph Sport Watchgot this watch on sale at sears for around 25$ i needed an alarm but hate the all digital watches and couldn't afford an all analog watch with alarm and chrono so i got this. casio makes way more analog/digital combo watches that any other maker. this watch is fantastic, large buttons, simple digital functions, you got the time on top then month, day and day of week on bottom. then alarm, stopwatch and a second timezone if you need that on bottom instead of the date..illuminator blue light lights up analog and digital display.. if i could change one thing i would give this watch a super scratch resistant crystal like the really expensive watches because after a while you get scratches because its a plastic face. But all you need is to buff it with 'acrylic scratch remover' and it looks brand new again

Casio Men's AW80D-7A Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch Review

Casio Men's AW80D-7A Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank WatchI like a watch with analog hands, but with digital features.Since they are hard to find these days, I ordered this one.

The good:

The LCD portion of the watch is very easy to read.

The watch seems accurate so far.

The analog portion of the watch is controlled by the digital, so it should stay as accurate as the digital portion.(The minute hand clicks 1/3 of a minute every 20 seconds.)

The bad:

The digital portion of the watch has so many features that it is difficult to use.Do I really need three alarms? The watch can store 30 phone numbers in it.Ten years ago that could have been useful, but now I store all my numbers in my cell phone. To make use of all these features, I'd need to carry around the instruction manual (which is 100 pages long, if you include the English, Spanish, and warrantee--although the pages are small).

The watch has no second hand.Sometimes I like to use one to time short things.Yes, there is a built in stop watch, but it is as hard to use as all the other digital features.(But my guess is the lack of a second hand will extend battery life.)

The band grabbed the hair on my arm.I had to go out and buy a twist-o-flex.

There is no stem to set the analog portion of the watch.Instead, you go into handsetting mode in the digital portion, and push a button and wait for the hands to move forward to the correct time.To set the hands forward 11 hours to go off of DST took several minutes.

The watch has a DST setting. It sets the digital portion of the watch ahead an hour. But it doesn't automatically go back after DST ends.So you still need to adjust the watch. It's not much easier than just resetting the time. And it doesn't affect the analog hands.

The watch has a world time feature. You can quickly find out the time in Bangkok. But don't expect to use this on your vacation to keep track of the local time.Press any button and you will return to your local time.

The ugly:

The analog hands are hard to read. They are a light color on a white background.

There is too much writing on the watch. Not only is it ugly, but it is easy to confuse the "10 YEAR BATTERY" label next to the 3 for a minute hand.

There is a backlight for the analog portion at the push of a button. But it doesn't give quite enough light, and it goes out after a second even if you leave the button pushed in.There is no backlight for the digital portion.
